I got my feet with this year as well. Ended up buying a sightmark wraith digital night vision. Played around with my cousins pulsar xp 50 but couldn’t justify the price tag for my initial purchase. I want to add a thermal scanner as scanning with the wraith leaves allot to be desired. That said I dropped a large boar in my third outing. More fun to hunt at night than during the day imo. Saw more deer in three night hunts than I did the entire season during shooting hours...

Is it legal to scout deer with thermal or night vision scopes?
Like, could you spot and stalk deer and wait until shooting hours until you pull the trigger?
I think all night vision equipment is illegal in Colorado as far as elk hunting. Years ago, I met a guy from Louisiana that would go with a group of guys from LA and they would begin their elk hunts hours before legal shooting time using night vision. They’d locate and set up on herds during the night and had outstanding success killing elk.

High dollar activity, but looks like fun. One place I hunt has a ton of pigs, and a few guys on the lease are strictly on it for pigs. A few weeks ago a member brought a guest who brought all his gear and whatnot. I got to talking to him and 2 of the scopes run more than $16k each. He also had a helmet, monocular, and a cheaper scope. Another guy on the lease has a rover deal that sits on top of his truck with a iPad type screen you look at in the cab. No telling what that costs. Too rich for me.

Great idea Reds. My brother & I have the same set up. Use a yamaho camo'd golf cart to drive around. Have shot a ton of pigs this way. Have 2 pulsar xq50 thermals and a pulsar core rxq -> Like all of them. How do you like the FLIR Scout III monocular? I am looking for a monocular to buy.

It's actually broken right now and getting sent back this week. I find myself using my Pulsar to scan more than anything now but we usually only have two people hunting at a time and will take the third scope off the gun and use that to scan. But the small size is awesome on the little monoculars.

Here's my protip for a poor hog man's tripod: check this tripod out from amazon. LINK
and also get this for the top: LINK
Camo it up & it works great as a tripod shooter. I've got 3.
That's a good little setup.
The Reaper Grip by Kopfjager is incredible. I might pick up a couple of those tripods and throw reaper grips up top.

I have my eye on the BOG deathgrip as it is fairly affordable and looks sturdy.

I’ve yet to look through another unit that matches the clarity. It does come at a price and lacks some of the creature comforts a lot of the budget-mid tier options offer however it’s a trade off I’m willing to accept for the image quality.

Yeah I've watched some videos and the image quality looks incredible.
I'm very happy with my Trail XQ38LRF but I've been tempted by the MK2/MK3.

Just getting in to the thermal game. I went with the new Pulsar Thermion XQ38 mainly because of the low base magnification and it’s ability to live stream from the scope to a phone or iPad. The only problem is that I ordered it 6 weeks ago and it’s still probably another 6 weeks out......... Been emailing back and forth with pulsar but they keep saying they’re behind production on these new units because of Covid. Oh well, it’s not like the hogs are going anywhere. Haha.
Also bought a Slik 700 tripod and a ballhead mount. Just haven’t been able to test it out yet.

If you're happy with it, I probably wouldn't consider upgrading, especially if you like the internal recording capabilities.
My only two qualms with the MK3 are that you need an external dvr recorder in order to video, and the fact that it is a manual NUC and not a automatic shuttered NUC that you see on many of the other available options.
But its compact, its tough as hell, and its easy to navigate without coming off the eye piece since you just rotate the turrets in order to work through the menus and settings.
When I bought it almost 4 years ago it was the mac daddy and that was before a lot of the more budget friendly options started adding plush features to make up for the sensor quality.

We went last night. Saw one boar and dropped him.
Saw a coyote at 1000yds+ and tried calling him in but I think he was a little far for the mouth call.
I think we have officially knocked off damn near every pig on my buddy's property. Time to find a new place to hunt.
