I don't think I've ever seen a thread on this and I know a couple posters on here have thermals so I figured I'd go ahead and start one up. My goal for this thread is to show how effective using thermals for pigs can be and how much, in our experience, it has already helped the deer hunting.

A couple buddies and I started hunting the pigs pretty hard about a year ago at one of their hunting properties. We started out riding around on an electric ranger (quiet) using a FLIR Scout II monocular to scan shooting lanes and fields for pigs and then would get out the ranger stalk them to 50-75 yards and shoot them with ARs with a mounted light on them. We were relatively successful and would kill 1-3 pigs a night but were significantly hindered by not having a thermal scope.

My buddy then bought a FLIR PTS536 and threw it on his .223 and our numbers went way up but the guy using the AR with a light couldn't come close to competing with the thermal. Flash forward to now and we have a Kopfjager tripod, FLIR Scout II monocular, a FLIR Scout III monocular, FLIR PTS536 scope, ATN Thor 4 2.5-25x, and a Pulsar Trail XQ38LRF.

Since February we have killed 142 pigs off his place and 4 coyotes. Our deer sightings went from 2-3 per night to now 50+ per night. I have tons of pictures/videos but videos are a PITA to upload so I'll just post some pictures.

Well, I now understand the name Reds....

Which is your favorite scope of those three? Good friend has a pulsar that he really likes. I have no experience with any but his and haven't played with it that much.

Also, what's ya'll favorite caliber for hunting pigs in ARs?

I was just looking at thermals this morning. They cost too much for me to justify and that sucks.

The Pulsar is my personal one and the one I prefer of all 3. The picture quality is incredible and the laser range finder is a great feature. I also like how the videos have sound, which the FLIRs don't. Got a video of a coyote kill from last week and my buddy wailing on a mouth call is awesome and I would've been upset not having sound on that one.

I mostly use my .300blk with discreet ballistics subsonic rounds or my POF revolution and whatever bulk .308 I have.
My buddy has two .223s and we've never felt it was too small for any of the pigs. We always go for right behind the ear.

This is my new scope. Its night vision, not thermal. ATN X-Sight 4k Pro 5x20. I haven't sighted it in yet but I am looking forward to shooting some pigs in the near future.

Damn fine guns. I love hog hunting at night but I use my green light because I'm a cheap bastard.

My buddy's brother has shot quite a few pigs off of 311 around Lumen Christi/Ellendale.

I have the stock illuminator that came with the scope. I plan on upgrading to the supernova in the future.

I don't have much experience with NV other than a set of binoculars we have mounted on a helmet, but I've heard that an aftermarket light helps a ton.

Jeez bro, those scopes are upwards of 4 grand.

Y’all really hate pigs.

We are scanning a few thousand yards at a time and the increased detection range of the better scopes saves us a lot of effort. Having a hard time keeping myself from buying a Trijicon MKII.
Also might be adding a thermal drone to the arsenal soon.

I went with that particular scope because it's a day/night scope. I can use it for regular hunting during the day as well as night hunting.

That's definitely a huge plus.
I'll be carrying that .300blk in/out of the woods with me when I'm bow hunting this year.
