Have been lurking around for quite a while and looking for some advice. I need or is it want a thermal. Looking at the Thermion 2 XP50 Pro. Good prices on an older model. Will be used for pigs, yotes, and such here in the Deep South-hazy, foggy, and misty. Not ideal conditions. Will be matched up with a DDM4. Also looking for a tripod. Thinking about a BOG or a Sunwayfoto. Would want a head or whatever it is called to match up with the forend MLok? And just a U shape for other rifle use. Would welcome any advice or thoughts. Anything I am missing? I have followed along over the years and know Sea Pickle has extensive experience in this realm and enjoy the pics and thoughts.

I called Cameraland and talked with them for a while about a tripod.
My issue is that I'm tall and needed one that I didn't have to lean down.

The one that I got (I don't remember the brand) has been perfect. I have a ball head that holds it just fine and I use the arcalock system on mine. A small plate that fits on the rail of my AR. I like it much better than the gun grip style.

Running a Thermion 2 XP50 Pro on a 6mm Arc with the Bog Deathgrip Infinite tripod. Been using that combo for about a year now with no complaints thus far. I’m no professional hunter by any means but the scope and tripod have worked well for me.

Thanks. Like the lock system just thinking about being able to move off of the tripod quickly. Not sure why I would need to. Think I would also want an additional head for other guns.

Supposedly, pulsar’s talion line performs better in high humidity environments. Lose magnification, but you may not need that if your shots are 250 yds or less.

I have a spartan magnaswitch that I really like, very easy on/off, but it’s surprisingly strong. They make an Arca attachment that will work with any tripod head that’s set up for that.

I run a tricer X2 tripod with an Artcise ball head. Arca rail mounts to the gun.

Warrior makes good tripods

Kophjager reaper grip is so much better than BOG. They also make a tripod but I’m not a fan of it.

Sunway makes a good tripod and ball heads too. Not sure if they make a grip type attachment.

Plenty people run bog with success and it’s fine for light use. When I connect a $10k gun/scope and walk with it over my shoulder, a few hundred $ more on a tripod is worth it.

Not the best pic but that’s my set up

The XP50 Thermion 2 is a bad arse scope. I had it for two years. They are going away that’s why it’s on sale. Its still a great scope

Tricer tripod

Warrior tripod

I don't have a thermal so I have no thoughts on that topic.
As far as tripods, I have one, the Bog. It was an impulse buy last fall at BPS as it was on sale. I took it on a prairie dog hunt a few weeks later using the factory saddle grip. It worked ok to 150 yards or so, but I thought it could do better. I tried a DIY "shelf" for the tripod on pd hunt #1 this spring. That was a failure. For pd hunt #2, I installed a ball head and an Arca rail from Amazon and really liked it. Shots are more steady and it's faster to get on target. My range has been extended about 25-50 yds. I also bought an adaptor so I can still use the factory saddle on the ball head. Two of my pd guns now have Arca rails, but I'll need to work on the others to install an Arca rail. In the meantime, I can still use non-Arca rail guns w/ the factory saddle. You'll notice I made a small modification on my Bog. I'm sure there are fancier and more expensive tripods, but I'm pleased w/ the Bog thus far given my needs. OTOH, I use mine prob 15-20 times a years in fairly controlled conditions. You'll need to figure out your needs and your budget.
Bog w/ factory saddle.

"Modified" Bog w/ ball head.

I’m running a Thermion 2 XP50 also on a Wilson combat 6.8 SPCII, Hyperion K can, and Bog death grip infinite tripod. It’s a pretty good setup.

I’ve been wanting to upgrade to a Nocpix Ace 60 3-24x LRF Thermal Rifle Scope with a .308 roam rifle that’s around 5.5 pounds but damn not sure I want 9k on a new setup

Want to keep my current setup as a backup for my buddies or dad to use.

RJM Hunting Australia is a popular YouTube channel. Dude night snipes foxes, pigs, rats, cats, hares, etc. He has some amazing gear and talks about it some at the beginning of some videos.
