Gave the mini me to a nephew. He had asked me many moons ago to build one that it. He is a crawfish boiling sucker and always invites the wife and I.

Maybe next week I will start a smaller one around 3' if I can get my back right.

Got that bike hanger installed today that Fish told me to get from harbor freight. I'm still a little wary of anything mounted upside down with wood screws, so I lowered the pirogue for the night. Gonna install some safety ropes I guess, but not sure how entirely yet. Still haven't gotten the paint, and haven't finished the priming yet... Got sidetracked the last two days.

How does he clip the chain to the boat once it's hoisted up?

Flip it right side up. My daughter parks Her H2 under it and it fits.

Yeah but how do they reach up to hook it once it's up on the ceiling? Do they hook it in advance somehow?

For the security chains you need:

two eyebolts
two short sections of chain
two sections of bungee cord
all chain and cord need to measure slightly more than the distance from ceiling to pirogue when it is hoisted and secured.
two 4" Heavy duty L brackets
two 4" pieces of rubber hose that will slide on one side of the L brackets

Slide the rubber hose on one side of each L bracket. Attach one end of chain to eyebolt the other to non hose side of the L bracket. Attach a slightly shorter section bungee cord at the same locations in parallel to the chain. Now screw eyebolt into ceiling approximately over the handle of your pirogue. Repeat the process for the other side

To set it without a ladder you need:

an old broom stick with threads on one end
an old paint roller with threaded handle to go on a pole.

If the roller is conventional style for the tube roller things bust off the outer portion leaving just the handle and a single heavy metal rod. Foam rollers come this way already.

Attach the roller to the pole for extra length. There are some roller that have longer shafts and you may not need the pole.

Now once pirogue is up and in place reach up with your new "reacher" pole and put the tip between the bungee cord and the chain and stretch it down and slide the rubber coated bracket tip under the handle of the pirogue. The tension from the cord should keep it in place and the chain will secure it if the hoist gives way. The rubber hose keeps it from slipping off and from marring the surface of the boat. When ready to lower it simply pull down on the cord/chain again and slide them out from under the handles and lower the pirogue.

I think he uses a ladder. The chains have a big S hook that hooks on to the handles. They are only about 12" long(chains).
