Wind looks to be kicking up just in time for the weekend. Any suggestions on where to fish Saturday? Was thinking PAC but open to any suggestions within 2 hours of the North Shore.

I used to do avionics and wire up helicopters. I went to school for electronics, so I'd be a pretty shitty technician if it didn't look half arse clean.

School me on 12v batteries... what’s the best for a fish finder? How long should it last me and are there certain things to look for in a battery ?

I've always used the 12v deer feeder batteries that you can get at Academy for about $20. I've used it ~8 hours on an Elite 4 before it went dead, haven't tested longevity on my Elite 5 yet but I'd imagine I'd get 5-6 hours out of it.

Would there be other options that would give me 8-10 hours of life? Just in case I go HAM one day.

What type of unit are you running?

C=xT

C is capacity in amp hours. x is current draw in amps. And T is time in hours.

So, my little Piranhamax 175 has a 100mA draw. I'm using a 12v 7ah battery. According to the formula I should be able to run that unit for 70 hours.

Probably but I'm not well versed in battery stats. When I bought my Elite 5 the previous owner had given me a 12v Duracell battery that was twice the size of the deer feeder batteries but it wouldn't fit in my Cell Blok so I got rid of it. Twice the size = twice the running time if my math serves correctly.

This is the one.

I don't guess the specs are out for the hook2 yet. Couldn't find them. So I looked at the 5" hook and it has a max consumption of 1A and a typical consumption of .075A

So if you were to get a 12v 7ah battery like I have:

7=1T
7/1=T
7 hours at max consumption

7=.075T
7/.075=T
93.33 hours at typical consumption.

Reality will be somewhere in the middle. A 9ah battery is the exact same dimensions as the 7ah battery. So you could get a 9ah if you want to be on the safe side. Should provide plenty enough battery for a day of fishing.
