I guess the pedal yaks are starting to dominate the market. You had to be one of the few to win a tourney in a non pedal yak.

You rarely see them up for sale though, last one I saw was about 6 months ago I believe for around $1000. Maybe they're not as great as I think they are?

Or maybe they're so awesome nobody wants to sell them? I'm going with that.

I stand by what I originally said, winning that tournament was a pure accident, 2-5 were all in Hobies though but I certainly got my arse kicked that day in the wind.

I was actually talking to a couple of friends who have pedal kayaks and hadn't realized until just recently how much of a disadvantage I'm at in tournaments, besides the fact that for the most part I suck at fishing. They can cover a ton more ground, and do so faster, but I think the biggest advantage is any time I need to move I have to put my rod down. I think that's the biggest disadvantage moreso than the ability to cover more ground, not having a bait in the water practically at all time.

I watched a friend doing this when we were at GI last year. Fishing into the wind. Not only the pedaling, but the reverse. That's why I bought my son a propel model.

Totally agree. That's why I'm glad I waited to get my first yak and went with an Outback. I plan on giving this one to my son and get me either the Nucanoe Pedal or the Jackson FD. My poor son can't keep up with me in his kayak right now. lol.

Anyone get a chance to demo the new Jackson Coosa FD when it made its rounds recently? If so anyone have any thoughts?

I'm headed to Pensacola tomorrow night and am taking an FD offshore saturday. I'll post back what I think about it. Word now is it will be out on the market mid july.

Since photobucket decided to be dicks, I'm gonna do an Imgur mic check here. Let me know if the image works.

Went to the Pack & Paddle demo and took Mark Makers' Titan for a test drive. Pictures don't do this thing justice. It's an impressive boat. Good to meet you Mark Makers. Thanks for letting me try out your ride.

Pic works. What else did you test and did you choose anything in specific?

I also tried the Slayer Propel 10. Thinking I'll probably eventually get one for my wife. That's an impressive little kayak too. Surprisingly stable for a 10 footer. I'm 6'2" 175ish and stood up in that thin no problem. Now, I could do cartwheels in the Titan. The Propel 10 not so much. But for a 5'6" 110 lbs woman, she'd be pretty solid in it.

What yaks y'all recommend for a big baw? The most comfortable looking I've seen is the hobie pro angler but the price tag hurts.. anything else comparable but a little cheaper?

Any of the Jackson boats, Coosa, Big Tuna, will float a large person. Native Ultimate Canak is good, as is an Ocean Kayak Prowler 15'. Look for longer and/or wider. You really do not want anything below 14'.

You want pedal or paddle? Anything pedal will come with a bigger price tag.

Look for a used Slayer Propel 13. Comfortable, and plenty stable for a big boy.

Just installed a Raymarine Dragonfly 5Pro. Just waiting on the water in MS to clear up a little before giving it a test run.

Any of y'all do any fishing at vermillion bay or big lake? That's the places I'd be going to the most
