Good question. The blades are longer on the new prop. They get the kayak out of the hole faster. Supposedly less drag, but more torque. They also changed bearings out. So to answer your question I don’t really know lol, just know it performed really well at the kbf Championship

I still have never been in anything other than a Hobie. Would really like to demo some of these.

Wildy is ready for ya anytime.
And hit PAC yesterday, south wind beat me to hell but found a couple around the nets before boat started rolling trough
After that not a bite so went scouting some new marsh couldn’t find any keeper reds unfortunately
Water was a lil stained but not terrible, high AF
Tackling fuel for next time...
And Eddie made a new PA slip

Yeah, he's making them longer and wider. Kayaks just keep getting bigger and bigger.

Thats me talking to Eddie in your 2nd pic
I asked him if he made that big new slip to fit the Blue Sky
Managed 2 flounder by the marsh islands behind the nets at the first spot I stopped at. Then the wind picked up and only caught one rat the rest of the day.

Next one I know of is June 8 at PAC. I’m most likely going to fish it

Looking for suggestions for locations (preferably on the westbank, not adverse to the eastbank) to take my 12yo son to teach him paddling... just picked him up a 10' yak. Thinking of starting him in the drainage canal near the house adjacent to StoneBridge.
Can anyone tell be about the Barataria Canoe Launch? looks promising, worth the trip before I drive down there to put eyeballs on it?

Matt knows PAC like I know my living room
Next one for LKFC is LA1 Slamboree on July 20th, 3 fish slam(red, trout, flounder), prizes for biggest fish in each category, live/dead bait allowed, free beer, food, and killer door prizes. This year we have a guided charter trip as a door prize.

Any idea where you plan to launch? I hope to start prefishing soon.

The last couple years I've launched at the kayak launch on the island, I've caught all 3 fish there, just never can catch all 3 on the same day.
I'll probably post something on Facebook soon, if I can sneak away this weekend I'll probably make a LA1 trip.

Port Sulphur either behind South Plaquemines Elementary School or off the side of Grand Bayou Road. Both would be good spots to take a beginner.
quote:Haven't launched there, but bank fished right next to it. Its swamp and lots of thick grass, so probably not ideal for a pedal drive but would be fine for paddle. Good chance you'll see alligators close up because the canal isn't very wide.

So this weekend I visited a local kayak dealer shop in San Diego and they were very helpful. Was interested in the Hobie Outback but they sold me on the Hobie i11s inflatable instead. I had no idea inflatables were this viable but the owner of the shop and his son said their main kayaks were these i11s inflatables because they can take it anywhere easily. Said they take it off the shore of La Jolla all the time as well as to lakes in the region.
They said the only downside is that you are limited in the amount of gear you can put on it but that's fine, I am a minimalist when it comes to this. They said all you really need is an H Crate or two and you're fine. I also want to get a cooler bag or two so I can store caught fish and food/drinks, a dry bag or two, and a GoPro mount at some point.
The one thing that is kind of intimidating is all the fishing gear. I've gone fishing in the gulf coast many times but I always had my uncle do all the rigging, I just fished. I want to buy a couple of saltwater rod/reels, and its overwhelming all of the options. I am trying to keep it as simple as possible as I get started. A couple of rods/reels, line, leaders, lures, hooks, sinkers, net, harpoon, knife, pliers. Since I can't do a livewell I want to get one of those side torpedo things that you can hang off the side of your kayak to put live bait in as well.

I would not want to take an inflatable kayak offshore. I recommend sticking with the outback.

That's what I said. I wasn't interested at first but they said it would be a lot more ideal for me since I have a small car and live in an apartment. I had a lot of reservations but they said its a great kayak and they take it offshore all the time without any issues. Also they knew a guy in Oregon who takes it off the Oregon coast all the time and he vouched for it too.
