Lefty had a pretty good sized catfish at one point. I thought he had a nice sized red the way it was fighting.

No I didn't demo since there are none around to be demoed. I feel confident in it since it's made by Jackson. I don't really have a lot of options since I can't sit low or paddle. I won't be trailering it. It will fit in a rack I'm building in my truck bed.

Plus, she got it on kickerstarter for $2400. If I hate it I should at least be able to break even since a ton of people are wanting them and they'll sell for $3500.

Was certain I had a red or black drum. Those Gafftop Sail Cats sure fight.

The frame and pontoons can also be separated. Breaks down pretty quick and easy from the video

So I'm trying to decide between a sit on top vs sit in. What say the board?

Ehh... I'm not wanting to blow my wad on something until I know I'll be into it, so I'd rather not go over 500 for my first one.

Keep an eye out from something used too, there's a guy on Facebook who's had a 14' Jackson Cuda posted for sale for a couple months, he's got it for $700 now but I saw him post it for $600 a few week ago. You could easily get what you paid for it back out much easier than you could one of those Pelicans or other cheap kayaks.

Sit on top unless you're looking at either the commander or ultimate.

Go look on Facebook Marketplace. I have seen a TON of kayaks there this week. They had a few Wilderness Systems Ride 115s in the $700-$800 range but you may be able to negotiate that down. Also had a WS Tarpon for $600 around Lafayette.

i fished for years out of a pelican 116 vastaway. i caught fish but it was extremely uncomfortable and i had to find a bank to take a piss. get something used that you can at least stand to pee.

So much truth to this. That Pelican 116 Castaway was the intro to kayak fishing for many. I bought mine in 2008. The upgrade to a lawn chair style seat and a stable standing platform is worth its weight in gold.

Man that was always a wet ride with the water coming in through the scuppers and into the the seat area. I had no qualms warming myself up...

Anyone have any experience with the pelican catch series? I searched, but came up with nothing.

I'm coming from rec side of things. Had a Necky Manitou I recently parted ways with. Was a PIA to fish out of. Now most of my yak buddies have moved out and I found myself fishing more and more out than just paddling for fun.

Would like to stay around the $700-$800 range. Not opposed to something used, possibly one that I could upgrade to pedal drive if I see myself holding on to it
