Sportsman's Warehouse in Slidell has the bodyguard on sale starting tomorrow for $199 and I'm thinking about picking one up as a pocket gun.

Read some reviews and the biggest complaint seems to be the long trigger travel and high poundage trigger pull (some are saying as much as 12lbs). I know you don't want a 3lb trigger in a pocket gun but 12 seems excessive...

What's the OB say? Anyone with hands on experience?

I have one it is compact however I don’t care for it. Exactly what you heard is right. Very long trigger pull and lbs.

Brother has one. Trigger pull is unreal long, was hard for me to should but you might be able to control it better. I would prefer the ruger lcp since people are running but for the same price a lot of times.

I have one. Same as reported. It is not fun to shoot. Very concealable, which is the point. Unlike the Shield 9, the safety locks the slide.
Don't waste the money for the laser.

This. I wear mine on my ankle. It is what it is. For the money, it is a great little back up, but I'm thinking seriously about a Shield or the XD for something as an everyday carry.

I have a shield already. Love it, but being a big guy makes it harder to conceal in more formal attire. I'd like something more easily carried in a pocket. For some reason I just don't like the aesthetics of the LCP (or 9). I know aesthetics should be the last factor used when concidering a firearm purchase but I can't make my mind get over it.

And for what it is, I guess I can get over the trigger if I ever had to use it. Just will need to put some range time in with it to get comfortable and efficient.

Both complaints are warranted.... long trigger pull and pretty heavy. It is pretty accurate, considering, but the squeeze is long.

I carry it in my pocket if loose fitting jeans and dress pants - very concealable. The Shield, for me, would be much more difficult in such circumstances. It does what i want a pocket gun to do: go bang, be accurate from a couple feet, and be easily concealable n all clothing.

For $200, why not? I had one w a laser that was stolen... bought a used Bodyguard w/o laser the 2nd time.... and agree w poster above - no need wasting $ on laser for this one.

Got my wife one because that is what she picked out and was comfortable with. I hate it but she feels safe with it and probably wouldn't carry anything else, so something is better than nothing.
Longest, grittiest trigger pull I have ever seen.

Go look at a Sig P238 or P938. Both are great, very compact guns. I have the 238 because it fits in the back pocket of my jeans perfectly in a neoprene holster and looks like a wallet.

LCP-II is a much better pocket pistol IMHO.

I have one and i like it overall. As mentioned several times already, the trigger pull is long and heavy, but the trigger break is consistent.
I looked at both the bodyguard and the ruger lcp and the reason I went with the bodyguard is comfort. I didnt like the ruger's grip in my hand. The wider grip handle on the bodyguard gave me a little more gun to hold on to and un-squished my hand.
And I agree with above, forget the laser.

My wife has had one for 2 years. She comes to the range with me about twice a year and has had no issues with the trigger. Having said that, the Bodyguard isn't meant to be a range gun. It's primarily a CC for protection. Long trigger pull and a 3-4 # difference in trigger pull isn't a deal breaker when shooting to protecting yourself or family. Thing is no one ever talks about trigger pull on a Mossberg 500 tactical for home defense.

It is what it is, a close quarters, point and pull the trigger gun until it's empty. In that situation long heavy trigger pull means nothing. Jmo

This what I call the "belly gun fallacy." If an attacker gets that close, your wife will never have time to get the gun out of her purse/belly band/whatever.

The post prior to yours says it isn't a "range gun." If it's so uncomfortable to shoot that she never practices, you've guaranteed she'll never be proficient. That's what we call a self-fulfilling prophecy. Every SD pistol needs to be a serious range gun -- one that gets shot regularly at the range.

Every defensive gun owner needs to be proficient. And the rationale is really pretty simple. We (the good guys) don't start the fight. We are the victims, and have to react to the attacker. We're already behind the reactionary curve, and we're using a puny weapon for self-defense (all commonly carried pistol calibers are puny -- the .380 even more so).

If she gets selected as a victim, it'll imperative that her gun handling skills are second nature ("auto pilot") so she can focus on what the threat is doing, and how to stop that threat (possibly 2 or 3 attackers). This isn't an easy task --- but if someone hasn't practiced and mastered these skills, the likelihood of prevailing becomes pretty small.

Just my $.02

Palmetto has the original Ruger LCP 380 on sale for $169 + free shipping. At that price may be worth a look.

I bought mine used in a gun store. Guy in there saw me looking and asking for one. Caught me in parking lot said he had one for sale.

Gun stores have used firearms. Bought a few off Craigslist and Facebook.
