Here is where we depart. You cannot assume that. It's just not so.

If you make the above assumption, which you just cannot do.

You are making the assumption that the hull displacement is decreasing faster than your speed is increasing. Stalemate.

Renoyld's number and hull shape determine the wake produced. Reynolds number is fluid density times relative velocity times interupting surface area all divided by viscosity. Higher reynolds number equals larger wake.

the same exact boat at faster speeds will displace less water

Depends on the hull geometry, but generally.

quote:

the same exact boat at faster speeds will displace less water but move water faster creating a very small wake that moves faster and dies out faster...the same boat moving at a slower speed will displace more water creating a higher wake moving at a slower speed...this is how it works

Can't disagree with this. The higher speed of the wave will degrade it more quickly. However, I'm talking about small canals (if you even read my post that started this crap). Now, would you prefer your boat slowly rise and fall while bumping the dock or slowly pound it several times in the same time? It's not an apples to apples comparison. The height of a wave is only part of its profile.

i will agree that this is what would happen....BUT, this is where my basket of fricks runs out. As stated before, if you're canal is not a no-wake zone, don't expect me to idle

Ironic thread is ironic. Fight stories werent good enough so we started our own.

FYI, my wake is only small if Im going 5mph or 55mph. Nothing inbetween. So depending on the day, I'll crawl by or fricking fly by. The mid range stuff is just rude.

I dont exoect you to idle past my canp. I dont expext you to even idle past me when im stopped UNLESS you have to pass close. Your wake wont bother me, i just dont wanna die.

Yeah, that's been the pattern. You don't even know when to attack, much less how.

Actually I wont even agree with that all the way, a smaller wake that is dying out will not pound anyone's boat any harder than a larger slow wake would... you have a smaller volume of water pushing on the same size object, in which instance would u think it would get pounded harder?

Again, that wasn't even my main point originally. It was just the easy target to attack. My main issue is safety in these small canals with blind curves.

The waves will hit at a significantly higher frequency, though. I'm not saying one is worse than the other, but to say summarily that one is the case is downright ignorant. Every hull is different. Every motor is different. Every prop is different. Each of those will affect the outcome. Hell, the design of the docked boat will change how it is affect by either wave.

I had never heard of mushing before. That's the part that drives me crazy.
