Beautiful Pic. Water looks nice! I too subscribe to the theory that you don't need a really big hook. The only situation I use a larger hook size is if I'm fishing a school of bulls and jacks out in open water and chunking some meaty flies.

I was so confused when I read 7x ha!

The reason I ask is because when I practice casting without a fly on (on the grass or on the water) my cast feels smooth, loop looks great. But the moment I tie on a fly, it is sloppy and out of control.

I use an 8 weight and 10wt depending on where I am, each with a 9 foot leader. Normally tie on 1/0 size hooks but also the occasional size 1 and 2. I have been trying on a variety of tippet sizes but I think the ones I have used are too big and that's what is causing my casting to go crazy when I have a fly tied on.

Anyway - appreciate the response and loved the pics. Thanks.

thanks! this was actually the gulf, or at least the mississippi sound right off of beach blvd in waveland.

was fishing the areas where the little bayous spill into the gulf and got onto a pod of reds in open water. worked him into the shallow water for the photo and let him off the hook. my mom and dad were pretty upset i released him - they wanted him for dinner!

Fishing for what? What kind of leader?
1. You might not need a 9foot leader
2. It’s obviously not heavy enough or tapered enough to turn over whatever fly you’re throwing.

Wild. I grew up in BSL and often wade fished and flounder gigged from the beach. I've never seen it that clear!

Redfish.

1. Shorter than 9 would make it easier?
2. Tell me more?

Picked up a 2wt for trout fishing in Colorado and SMNP. Any recommendations on fly line and backing?

GSMNP I like the Scientific Anglers mastery, backing hell whatever you have you will never use it in the park but 4x 6x tippet and surprising stay around a 14 sz fly they like bigger flys in the park vs the hatch odd but if you think about it makes sense but that is not true on the tail waters in the area

Winter weather day bump

What is the closest place to SELA that one can plan a weekend trip to trout fish? I'm assuming somewhere in Arkansas.

Yeah, AR will be.

Should have a massive shad kill happening in the next week or so.

Big browns will be below the dam going nuts.

You AL people. Apparently they are stocking some hogs in Black Creek, Gadsden AL.

I’ve heard that the fishing below the dam at Smith Lake in NW AL is really good but have never tried it.

Anyone have any info on fishing around Morganton, GA? Staying at a place on Wilscot Creek in April and not seeing much about it, specifically... may not even have trout. I know there's lots of good fishing in the area, but not even sure where to start if there's nothing right behind the house on Wilscot creek.

I find that hard to believe with all the damage wild hogs do. Would not think the state would allow that.

There are a number of fly shops near there. My advice is go to the shop on day 1 and talk to them.

Alabama creeks get too hot in the summer. It is basically a natural kill off for trout.

Yea, I was just messing with you. You ever fish the Elk River in Southern Tennessee. Really good trout fishing on the upper end.
