What about something like this how hard is it to get permits for art fishing reefs?? It’s gotta help with the erosion also.
Artificial reefs to combat trawling

Well boys u better check and see who are major donors to Jeff Landry's campaign's over the years. They have bought their position at the table. Now CCA is going to raise hell and say its all the Pogie boats fault then you better have the science on your side. In a court of law you can show these horrendous pictures of spills and get a ground swell of support but if you don't have science you ain't got shite. The truth is if your going to raise hell about the Pogie industry and its harmful effects to the speckled trout and redfish population...u best better take a serious look at the shrimping industry and its deleterious effects on the population of small bait fish that trout and redfish depend on to grow to adult size. Too bad Dr. Shipp is no longer with us to defend his years of research. Reduced limits and coastal restoration will go a longgggggg way into restoring fishing stocks to levels that they were 30-40 yrs ago.

You literally just described pogies
Their role in the bottom of the food chain is the reason all the East Coast states have banned these rapists from even entering their waters.

Pogie boats provide a lot of jobs for Louisiana residents, which the board seems to be blind to.
The BP oil spill provided a lot of jobs for Louisiana residents, and all but killed flounder fishing for over ten years. The State was foolish to seek restitution for harm done to this publicly owned resource, our beaches, barrier islands and marsh.
How can you be so blind not to see that?
Every other State that studied the issue banned them from near shore waters, or completely. But we are smarter than them so let’s destroy the fish at the bottom of the food chain that so many other species depend upon.
And while we’re at it, allow light to no oversight on bycatch of redfish and other valuable species. After all, that’s the Louisiana way, why change now?

Lol but bowfishing is the problem

So who on the senate or state is related to someone from Omega is the question?
Posted on 2/17/24 at 9:22 pm to maisweh
I think the new Senator from Laf-NI-St Martin area Mr. Miguez ...his family is in the fuel business and their largest customer base is the pogie boat group and they also contributed heavily to his campaign!
Rember the Pogie boats don't fish in the bay systems in LA....while the Shrimpers boat trawl the bay systems and generate millions of tons of by catch every year.

As a trawler in my past life, we rarely if ever caught any trout or redfish

Flounder?

I don't fish offshore, but everything I have read about this (mainly here [this place is a great resource]) shows this is stupid as Hell. Considering Louisiana claims it is the "Sportsmans Paradise," it sure has regs in place thay say otherwise.

Jeff Landry's brother works for or at least used to work for Omega.

Damn that is sad for Louisiana and the coastal ecosystem.

I think it’s a different Ben Landry that works for Omega, not Jeff Landry’s brother. At least when I google them the two Ben Landrys have different photos.
(But it wouldn’t surprise me anyway.)

CCA didn’t agree to this.
They fought it and lost to the bigger and deeper pockets. Typical LA politics.

Hate on CCA as much as you want, or for other reasons but they have been very vocal about the pogie boats

There’s no hate for CCA from me; however, there is an expectation of transparency and accountability if you’re perceived as leading the efforts on our behalf.
I attended the January meeting and what I witnessed was a poorly prepared CCA and a lack of unification amongst those groups who supported the NOI. Specifically, CCA, Theodore Roosevelt Conservative, Louisiana Charter Boat Association and recreational fishermen.
I have no problem with CCA leading this effort, but I do expect them to be more prepared and appoint someone qualified to publicly address the commissioners and go head to head with Omega and Daybrook.

Well CCA pay's Cresson $300,000 per year for this we should get someone who's well versed in the science behind fisheries management. Maybe not the expert but for sure be well versed to take on the Omega and Daybrook suits. Wasn't there a study that Mr. Jenkins had done in 1992 on the pogie industry that had Wildlife and Fisheries people on the pogie boats to monitor the boats and how they fished and what the by catch was....if I'm not mistaken the report said that not a lot of their by catch was gamefish.
