From the Victoria(TX) Advocate. Hopefully this is true.

LINK
While some fish kills may be reported this week, Hagen said the weather is not expected to cause mass mortality because temperatures did not rapidly and drastically drop.

“We’re not expecting a mass fish kill because it is not a cold snap like what happened in the 80s,” Hagen said. “A snap is when temperatures drop really quickly, over a few hours and not a few days.”

It is not looking good from the reports I have seen on 2coolfishing. I really hope the shallow bays like east matty make out ok.

It is real bad in POC, those stupid fish never leave Pringle lake and they get killed a couple times a decade. Going for a ride out of Rockport tomorrow, a buddy went today and saw lots of floating bait fish, hard heads, sand trout, and a few specks. Every Snook and Tarpon in the canals around Corpus and Mansfield were killed and floating already yesterday. Afraid it is going to end up pretty bad when all said and done, still have a couple cold nights this week.

Hoping for the best but I think you're probably right. Already seen some pictures and still more to come.

Looks like it’s moving into Calcasieu estuary as well. Saw some fish kills in Black Lake and the Salt Ditch.

We were just getting back to normal last year after the 2017 freeze.

No sightings of kills on south bank of lake yet or ship channel. That report could change though, have someone going out tomorrow to scout and let me know.

I don't know much about that region, does it not have deep channels for the fish to escape to?

I think it depends on the bay system in TX. Laguna Madre is pretty shallow all throughout I think. Galveston is deeper.

ULM & LLM are shallow flats with tons of grass and clear water which doesn't hold heat well. The only place the fish can go is the ICW, boat traffic is stopped during these winter storm to keep the fish from getting stirred up on the bottom.

Barge traffic has been encouraged to stop, I can tell you it hasn't stopped in the middle coast and it will lead to a higher mortality number. Have a buddy in Matagorda right that just watched a tug go down the ICW and chopped up trout and drum are floating in it's prop wash. Going to make some calls to see what can be done then headed out here in Rockport.

And I just booked three days of wade fishing in the ULM for March a week before this storm can through.

The old timers collected them and salted them down in barrels.

I will be fishing east matty in early april. Im hopeful the fish and industry in general can recover from this but it may take a few years.
