Looking for the OBs help. We are building a floating duck blind, not the first time I have done this, but the first time I've had to come up with all the supplies myself. In the past, we stuffed the floats (wooden boxes) with styrofoam blocks. Does anyone know where I can these?

Make a few box templates out of plywood. However, I have a feeling it will be more expensive than pre made blocks. I call out foam blocking on some of my projects with elevated slabs so the contractors are getting them from somewhere. I'm actually heading out to do an inspection tomorrow on a job where we used them, so I'll ask the super.

Plastic 55 gal drums are cheap. You would be surprised how many you can fit in a pick up truck

Squirrel:

Call one of the offshore surveying companies in BR (Tesla) or Lafayette (Fugro/John Chance), or one of the diving firms in Morgan City, and ask them where they buy "logs" of styroroam. They use (used to use) these to make buoys for marking offshore pipeline routes and existing offshore pipelines.

In an earlier life I spent a couple of eternities doing this type of surveying. The logs we used were orange in color, about 8-10 feet long, roughly 2 ft. wide by 10-12" thick. We would saw them into usable blocks with regular old hand-held crosscut saws. Cutting this type of styrofoam would leave orange "sawdust" -- its composition isn't at all like the white packing peanuts you see.

This stuff LINK is about the size I remember. Color is different and composition might be different.

all you need are sheets of roofing insulation
any commercial roofing supply place will have them
cut them to fit your boxes and stuff them like a deck of cards

Spinoff question, If you were to build a deck on top of the 55 gal drums, how would you adhere the deck to the drums without piercing the drums? Basically, How can you ensure the drums wont leak?

Band strapping and boxing in the drums.

Adding a two part mixing foam. 2 lb density will do just in case some asswipe shoots the drums.
