Any of you coming to Lake Charles to fish should avoid the new and improved Prien Lake Park 8 lane boat ramps. Someone complained about the grade being too steep so the design for the new ramp was set at zero degrees. Yep, you heard that right, zero degrees. Unless you have hip boots, there is no way to launch without getting wet. Sending pic to the drunk CRAWFISH to post since i am not capable.

OK, 1 degree then
Millions spent and 18 months to complete, now they plan to fix this winter per one of our PJ's i just got off phone with. Probably going to lay some Quickcrete to build the grade a little.

Zero degrees slope is flat so I highly doubt the boat launch is zero degrees. If so, you would just continue to back up in 1” of water

How is this “stupid engineering”? From your OP it seems people complained about the launch being to steep so they made it less steep. Sounds to me like the engineers gave the people what they wanted.

Boat ramp should be about an 8 degree slope, ideally. Anything less than 6 is too shallow. But I’ve launch on ramps that were probably over 20.

Then you just back off the end of the launch. The boat's launched...as well as the trailer and probably the truck, too. But it's launched at least.

I assume the ones complaining about the grade were pissed their walkers were getting salt in them. Me thinks the guy that drew the plans had never launched a boat before. Previous ramp was not steep only under cut and dropping. Other than the ramps, the place is 4 star.

Bingo. Be mad at the ole retired baw on the police jury who told them to make it that way so he could back his 30' pontoon down easier.

Launching at 20 degrees isn't the problem. Getting the boat out of the water at 20 degrees makes me wish I had 4 wheel drive....

It’s why I bought a 4WD.

ETA: Well, it’s one of a few reasons why.
