I’ve watched just about all of Steve’s shows and I just recently watched his first fishing episode and I would have to agree. Sometimes I feel like he’s trying a little too hard to make these conversations deep. I’m not knocking him though. I like his humor also.

When the Meatester crew wants to be funny, I think they are hilarious as shite. Callahan is the funniest of all of them, and whoever the hell created those Flyfishing lessons with Jeff (you can call me Jeffery).

This was probably the first time I've really felt it was forced though. You could even see it on Van Zandt's face at first, like he didn't know where he was going with that or why.

Now, that could be because they just didn't show the whole conversation as well.

A buddy of mine who works for the fed wf told me today that the meateater crew had recently secured a permit to film at the chandeleur islands with Theophile Bourgeois. Not sure if that’s changed since the crash or even if it was for das boat. My buddy didn’t really have any more info than the permit. But looks like rinella wanted to film something here.

Every so often I’ll bug whoever manages their Instagram account to see if they are planning some La content but nothing is ever on the radar. The only person from La I can recall being on any of their podcasts was the rabbit hunting guy that Ben O’brien hosts from time to time. He lives in the NE now but talks about growing up in La.

I think he sides with whoever does the most to protect the land. I don't remember what episode it was, but he was in Alaska. He said if somebody told him he could never go there again, but the land would be safe forever, he would take that deal in a heartbeat.

The Bozeman crew went with Obama due to the public lands issue. I get the public lands issue, but draw the line when a politician says he’s going to “fundamentally change America”.

That's why I have the respect for him I do. He's a pure conservationist and is what outdoorsmen should be. I'm pumped for the next episodes, but I do wish he was stopping in Louisiana.
Didn't intend for this to turn into a poli topic, but y'all do y'all.

He’s been pretty open about some of his views. One party supports the 2nd amendment and one clean, air, water, and not divesting public lands.

Yup, one party protects your right to hunt and the other protects your places to hunt.

Partially true. Both parties protect places to hunt by different means, to different extents...with one party working to eventually restrict hunting to the point of elimination (See California as an example).

How exactly are the Republicans protecting places to hunt? There is a group of Republicans actually working to pass off ownership of Federal public lands to states or private interests. Our own Ralph Abraham is one of them. When S. 47 was being voted on, which was a huge bill for sportsmen and public lands, there were 8 votes against in the Senate, and 63 votes against in the House. All of those were Republicans.

I'm not bashing the Republicans, but I would love to know what they have done that protects places to hunt.

It makes sense from a republican ideological stand point (small government, privatized gov strategy). The republicans and democrats have largely sold out to corporate interests so they aren't fighting us any more. Public lands are a waste unless they are being used to generate income in their eyes.

I'm pretty big on small, limited government but public land management is one of the few things the government has gotten (mostly) right. I'd be a lot more sympathetic towards efforts to dump public land in an effort to cut government spending if the savings were significant and those making the cuts were ideologically consistent with it. They have their pet agencies that won't be touched.

I guess what kind of income matters as well or how much could be made by mineral extraction/timber operations.

The reason to have public land is to keep vast areas untouched. If they were privatized, they would be broken up into small areas with limited access to each area. You wouldn't be able to do things like hike for miles in many places.

Given there are some places in Europe and elsewhere where you can make long hikes over private ground. But its pretty rare and that's been established for many years.

Like I said, I didn't want this to turn political, BUT Rinella was on Joe Rogan yesterday and at the very end they talk about politics and Rinella states in more or less words "I'm instinctively fiscally conservative, people think I'm socially liberal for where I am, but I'm more libertarian on those issues. BUT, the right has a LONG way to go for me with conservation and land. Basically back to where they used to be." So, saying he wants to be a lefty so bad has fallen on its face. Also, it's a great podcast if yall want to listen.
