Now that colt LE9620's are off the market, what is the next best option out there for M4 clone? I'm not building one, I basically want a semi auto M4 in the $1000 or less price range.

M&P Sport II or the Ruger.

(Heck if you catch a sale right you might be able to get 1 of each for $1000 or just a tad over.)

Any of them from a decent manufacturer. ARs aren't that complicated and there's nothing special about Colt. Specs are specs.

I'm assuming they're both very reliable?

I'm just going to put a light on it, otherwise I'm not doing anything to it. I had a colt previously and sold it. Really stupid move on my part

As reliable as a Colt or military rifle with proper care and maintenance.

That's a good assumption for a purchase. It's not a good assumption if you're actually going to have it for a contingency no matter what brand it is. Whatever you buy, go put a couple hundred rounds through it. Then you know it's reliable.

I was just about to ask what you guys thought of the BCM RECCE. Are their barrels good? I was thinking about getting their precision version, or the lower tier version and replacing the barrel.

I was looking at that one.

I do want a 1:7 barrel so I can shoot the heaviest bullets in the off chance I ever decide to hunt with it

FN is contracted with the military and uses the same specs for their civilian models

They also make the barrels for PSA, or did so when I bought mine.

BCM complete upper on an Aero lower is about the best you can do for around $1000. Always my rec for a budget gun. Less than that, Ruger MPR is my choice.
