If a deer has to be finished off when you get close, what is the plan?

Only a 10mm, because if they get close enough they get shot with that.

Yep 9mm mostly but for other reasons. I've shot many a pig that's run in front of me after a hunt. We have bears now also so a warning shot may be necessary at some point. Followed by a change of underwear.

Yes, everything is more fun strapped with a pistol.

No. If a deer has to be finished off I shoot it with what I shot it with the first time.

I do bring a .357 on tracking jobs in the daylight. At night I bring a nice whopping stick.

Yea I carry a .45 and would finish off a buck with it. A doe though, I'm going to choke that bitch out

Seriously though, I carry a mag of hardball for finishing off if needed otherwise I've got JHP's for walkin around.

I honestly thought I was about to see it again.

And to answer the question, I don't carry a sidearm. I shoot them again with my rifle if need be.

Times that I have used a sidearm while deer hunting:

Finished a basket rack in the neck with a .357 Python
Finished a coyote in the shoulders with a .45 Single Action Army

Honorable mention:

Had a .45 SAA cocked and propped on the rail of tree stand for a buck that jumped through the lane while I was sniping squirrels on the corn pile with a 10/22

Just about every hunt last year due to having a shite load of hogs. Hadn't taken it a time this year. Need to start again & try & kill a deer with it
