I have my dads and grandfathers 870 wing masters (3 total) and a 1100 wing master all from the 60’s to 70’s and they’re all great guns

That's good to hear. I like them but don't trust them yet.

I'm going to take a chance on an 870 or 700 next year.

Just looked at sportsman's warehouse. They're priced low and do look nice. Tried to find a few real reviews but it has only been a short time.

I don’t know but my 2006ish 870 express is a piece of junk. It misfeeds more than it doesn’t.

I have one from the late 90s and was about to throw that MF in the dumpster. It rusts easily and it would often fail to eject. The issue lies in that the ejector only grabs one side of the rim (unlike Mossberg and other pumps) and the crappy quality control of the 870 has burs that the other side of the rim of the shell catches when trying to eject.

I used a dremel to smooth out those burs by taking the barrel off and using a fine grit wheel. Slicking it up like that eliminated my problem. Maybe it would help yours.

Here’s a link that might help you.

What years?

2000 until it went bankrupt around 2020

My nephew had one that would rust sitting in a vat of oil.

That’s not the case with my 2012 700, although I’m pretty diligent about wiping my guns down with CLP and never leaving them in the case for extended periods of time.

I have an 887 from the early 2010s. It's basically an 870 with their "ArmorLok" coating, which is some kind of rubber or polymer coat I guess.

Anyway, that SOB would jam everytime I shot it. Brought it to a gunsmith who, in short, said he wasn't going to touch it and to send it back to Remington. I got in contact with Rem, sent it in, and had my gun back in less than 2 weeks.

Turns out, the trigger assembly was somehow installed backwards. Haven't had a problem since.

Amazing how crappy their QA was at that time. How does a trigger assembly get put in backwards?!

I gave mine from 1976 to my nephew years ago. Gave his kids my M&P 15-22 Sport this past Thanksgiving. I'm still everyone's favorite uncle!

Whatever happened with the accidental discharges that 870’s were alleged to have? I remember seeing an article a long time ago about that.
