South Louisiana this afternoon my dad killed it under some rose bushes. This is the only pic I have. I know it's not poisonous but not sure what kind it is. Racer? Blue runner? Earth snake? Yellow bellied something? GDKC? I can't tell. Work your magic OB.

It's a plain bellied water snake. Looks dead but might just be the camera angle.

Snake ID

When are we going to educate you people? I walked into my garage four nights ago and saw a friendly copperhead on the floor. I used a shovel but gently scooped it up and took him across the street and into the woods across from my house. No harm to me and no harm to it.

Your snake is non venomous by the way.

Looks as if the snake got off a few shots before succumbing to the mighty wood handle snake.

I have let venomous snakes live plenty of times. You can bet your sweet arse that if I find one in my house, I’ll kill it. I might even try to kill it twice. Even being in my yard is a big frick up for venomous snakes.

When are you going to learn to read? I clearly stated that it was my dad who killed it at his house. Wanna call him up and give him your big boy speech about killing snakes?

As folks have stated that's a pretty good specimen of water snake....I found one in my in laws yard yesterday getting ready to boil crawfish....he was feisty but I was able to handle him and get him back to the bayou behind the house.

He didn't have to die FWIW.

Yea I like my dogs and kids too much to let a copperhead or moccasin keep breathing that decides to wander in my yard.

If it was in my yard, once I knew he wasn't venomous, I'd have sent him on his merry way. I try not to kill them unless they're venomous. My dad however, has doves in cages he raises and chickens that lay eggs. Sucks when a egg eater gets in your cages and wipes out half your dove population or eats every egg the chickens lay. Around my dad's house, the only good snake is a dead one and I don't blame him one bit.

You clearly don't have kids or grandkids running around your house or pets if you let a copperhead in the garage live, and if you do have kids around, shame on you for caring more about the snake's well being than your family. I bet you don't ever kill wasps or fire ants, stinging caterpillars, or black widows either.
