You can confirm by holding it.

I was considering filming a Discovery Channel feature, but I don't hold snakes.

The bite doesn't hurt much. Kinda creepy having to pull the head forward off your arm due to the curved teeth though.

I kept snakes in my class for years, I've had to pull a few off my arm. Feels like a mosquito bite, just a visceral reaction the first couple times. Scares the hell out of you, after a while no big deal.

Love that!

Bumped into this guy on a property I was looking at last spring. One of the bigger Rat snakes I've run into, although I've seen both Copperheads and Rattlesnakes in trees as well, buth juvi.

Nice pic. Rare to see an actual living snake on the OB given all the haters.

Only had a muzzleloader and no cane knife. We let him go back to his hell.

I love snakes. I walked right under this eyelash viper before noticing it.

That's a big snake right there. When I was a kid I caught one that measured 6'6". He was slithering along the ground and I heard the leaves rustling from about 30' away. I ran over and he was going into a hollow in the trunk of a tree. I jumped to the other side of the tree to surprise him when he came out the other side, waited a couple seconds, then didn't see him. Looked into the hollow and he was going up into the center of the tree, actually into the inside of the trunk.I grabbed ahold of him and we had a tug of war. I was about to give up when I started hearing crackling sounds (didn't want to harm the snake), but he gave up and I pulled him out of the trunk. Biggest snake I ever caught, though I caught a 6'4" a week later that was considerably thicker.
We've also climbed trees to shake them out of upper branches. They do love to climb. When I lived in Braithwaite, my wife found one in the mailbox. She swore that I put it there.

I don't know just how long he was, but he was healthy.

Rat snakes pretty much get a pass from me.
