Been wanting to get a smoker, just not sure if I want electric or propane. Anyone have some good cheap suggestions around $200? Tired of dealing with charcoal.

Master built electric is pretty good. Get a pellet tray instead of using the built in unit

Yeah I only use charcoal for regular bbq but it surely isn't fun chasing charcoal every hour for 8-10 hours.

Got the largest master built electric smoker with the remote control. Thing is awesome. Just did a 6lb Boston butt, rack of ribs and 6 leg quarters. Best bang for the buck

Master built electric. Academy has the 40” on sale for $199 fairly often. $299 usually.

Buddy of mine has propane. Works well too I just like how the electric is just easier. Plug into wall and set the temp and load chips every hour and you are good to go

I was looking at this one seems like a decent deal. I may have to keep an eye out for the electric

I have a masterbuilt electric and also a brinkman charcoal. I like heavy smoke flavoring and I just don't get that from the electric. However, I usually smoke around holidays and the wind/cold just makes the charcoal hard to deal with. The electric has no problem keeping a steady temp in any conditions, so I find myself using it quite a bit.

There is a thread here giving codes that will knock about 30% off any purchase at academy, so I would probably see what you can do with that.

Got this one about a year ago. Love it.

Crumble some charcoal briquettes in with wood chips to give a little more smoke to the food. Read that tip on the Food Board. Works well. Make several wood chip packets in heavy duty foil and change them out when the chips are done smoking.

Masterbuilt electric 30” w the side mounted cold smoking box from amazon.

The cold smoke box will run for like 4-6 hours straight without refilling.

Seems to me cooking on these automated gadgets is no different than using spinners duck hunting, shooting deer on corn piles, high fence, etc. Man up, sally and cook on a real fire.

That's true. I've considered a pellet smoker for those type of things. Just can't get myself to pull the trigger for something I don't do very often.

Ive done the stick burner thing and it produces good Q. It’s fun if you have the time to dedicate to it. I went to a MB propane and loved it. I used it so much it i ended up burning the bottom out of it. I built a rather large propane smoker last year and this one should last my lifetime and probably the kids. I recommend propane for ease of use and it does produce a good product.
