Smith & Wesson (SWBI) to move to Tennessee
Moving 750 jobs to Maryville, TN

WSJ Article

quote:

The company will invest more than $125 million to relocate its headquarters and some operations from Springfield, Mass., where it has been based for generations, to Blount County, Tenn., near Knoxville. It will create 750 jobs in the area, according to the Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development.

The lower cost of living was a factor in the move, Chief Executive Mark Smith said in a statement. He thanked Republican Gov. Bill Lee and the GOP-dominated legislature “for their unwavering support of the Second Amendment and for creating a welcoming, business-friendly environment.”

Two big wins for TN this week. S&W and Ford both announce they are moving/opening new factories in TN.

No gun manufacturer should have any presence in a leftist state. This is good news for people who still value freedom.

That is awesome news and I wish the other manufacturers would do the same.

Looks like we’re solving one of the problems left over from the Civil War.

Hasn't virtually every major arms manufacturer now moved to Southern/red states?

The only I can think of still around, is Colt's facility in Connecticut, but their new owner CZ, is supposedly building a giant home base in Arkansas.

I also don't know why the hell Colt is still in that state.

This is one of the most maddening things. Every time I cut my grass I’ll find beer bottles and cans in the ditch, sometimes even in my yard. Apparently people around here think nothing of throwing them out of their vehicles.

I live in a rural area, where just about everyone hunts. I must be naive, I thought sportsmen would have a little more appreciation for the environment.

Not surprised. Kimber’s move to AL was telling.

Good for them!

They are liberal a-holes. Also their products suck. Don't buy a S&W revolver made after the 80's. Now 80's and before are wonderful though.

Beretta moved from Maryland to Tennessee in 2016. They are near Nashville.

I agree with your sentiment here, However, these relocations are not due to politics. It's all about the money and profits, and shareholder dividends. S & W is relocating because of taxes, manufacturing costs, and due to impeding state legislation outlawing the manufacture of some of their products.

This is why S & W is relocating part of their business to Tennessee: "Why Blount County?
Smith & Wesson President and CEO Mark Smith said in a press release that the company was attracted to the region's low cost of living and quality of life.

In a separate corporate press release, Smith said the company had "been left with no other alternative" than to leave Massachusetts, citing legislation proposed in April that would prohibit manufacturing some of its products there.

The legislation would have impacted more than 60% of the company's revenue, Smith said in the corporate release. Smith & Wesson did not respond to a request for interview."

If state legislation is not political, what is it?
