Shamrock I suppose to be a really good hull. I won't comment on the motor.

Just make sure all your bilge pumps work...

I habe never had good experiences with inboard gas engines. The worse was being broke down by Midnight lumps in January in 4-5's. My buddy sold that boat shortly afterwards. My crew and I fish out of a 23ft sea fox with a single f250 yamaha. We mainly fish out of Venice and usually venture no more than 30 to 40 miles offshore depending on weather. Just gotta pick your days right. I agree with earlier poster, there is strength in numbers. Seatow will come get you up to 20 miles offshore if I remember right. Good luck and stay safe.

Where are you going out of? If you go out of Venice. You can catch anything you want 30 miles out
True but to get to the pass out of Venice you still have a 35 mile run in the Mississippi.

I saw someone mention sea tow. I don't think they have any locations in south LA so that won't do you a bit of good.
They do.

Nearest location to Cocodrie area
Sea Tow
Westbank
Serving the Louisiana’s Mississippi Delta area from Lafitte to Grand Isle and from Myrtle Grove to Venice
Don't think they will help you west of Grand Isle.
ETA: Looks like if they don't have a location in your home area they will arrange for something under their universal towing coverage and provide reimbursement. So you probably have to cover the towing charge and then get reimbursed by sea tow.

Yea not trying to be a dick but S LA offers mostly remote boating/fishing options so redundancy (2 engines) or safety nets (buddy boats or seatow) are much more necessary here than most other gulf coast places where everyone hits the same waterways and spots.
An oversized deep V single inboard would not even cross my mind as an option as a 'compromise' or 'do it all' boat

He always wanted an inboard.... I couldn't talk him out of it. So I make due with what we have

Go to the 12 mile rigs. You are actually only about 4 miles from land.

Hey just for the record, I don't even have a boat so I have to be jealous of your dad's boat with an inboard.
It just seemed like a very strange choice for LA fishing to me.

It is. It drafts 2ft and to get to my camp is pretty tricky to findc2 ft of water the whole way there

My dad recently purchaced a 25 ft' shamrock, inboard 350,
I had one just like that. That was a sweet ride on calm waters, but once one got in 3'+ chop in the gulf, that sucker would knock your teeth loose. In 1995 fishing the GRTR, was out about 45 miles and a TS formed up over us that day. Took well over 5 hours to get back in. Had less then a gallon of fuel left. Seas were well over 12', chop. Had a buddy boat with us and we lost sight of him in the waves. shite got real that day. To many boats had went down. The CG was on the ball that day for sure.
Anyway, we placed and won a few spots that rodeo. Very few boats were able to fish offshore thru the weekend.
I use to run about 50-60 miles out. Use the 1/3 rule. 1/3 out and 1/3 in. Always keep 1/3 for emergencies.

12's ... ouch! well if it can make it through that I feel alot safer in it wave wise. I've been in 5-6's in it and that was a long ride in. And that was to much for me. We try to pick our days.

There's nothing wrong with that boat. You won't be going to Cuba in it, but you don't need to. Gasoline inboards are not the best engines in the world, but they're still reliable. I'd say you could go 40-60 miles out. It's always a gamble with one engine but just make sure your electronics are working.
