Silverado making a humming noise only when wheel is straight

No noise when turning or making lane changes. The research I have done leads me to believe that it is unbalanced wheels/bad alignment as there would be a steering wheel vibration if my wheel bearings were going bad. Thoughts?

You may not feel a wheel bearing in the steering wheel, can you jack the front of the truck up and check the wheel bearings.
Also what kind of tires and how old?

To elaborate a bit more on this, once the wheel is off the ground grab the tire with both hands on opposite sides and try to see if you can see or feel any movement as you push and pull on the tire.
The tire should only just spin forward or backward a bit and not be sloppy from side to side or up and down.

What year and how many miles would help

I agree to check the wheel bearings. Had to change both sides on our Silverado. Was told it was a common issue.

Humming noise is more than likely a bad bearing. I’ve been through a lot of Chevrolets and that’s the no 1 cause. Unless it’s an older truck you’ll probably have to get a new hub

Agree on the wheel bearing. Jack it up and check for slack at 12 & 6 o’clock.

I mean if you have all-terrain tires or more aggressive and have not rotated they will typically only hum in a straight line

The last time you rotated tires? How much wear on the tires? Miles on the vehicle?

Sounds like wheel bearing I just changed out hub assemblies on my work car Sunday. It was very loud going straight and if you turn wheel a bit it got quiet. Sounds like same issue.

Might be your hub. I replaced both of mine this week. It was making a slight squeak that became a grinding sound. I was pretty nervous at some point I was going to lose a tire. Took a couple hours to do both, pretty straightforward job.

I had something similar and it turned out to be a motor mount. Slowly rev the engine while it’s in park or neutral to see if the vibration comes at a certain rpm.

I just had this happen last month. Drove a long way for a dove hunt and it sounded like I was on a rumble strip the whole way. Stopped at a jiffy lube and they checked it out for hours and said everything was fine. Drove back home and my local car shop immediately diagnosed as a wheel bearing. Showed me the play in the wheel after it was off the ground. $700 to fix.

100% it's a hub bearing. Easy fix
