Sighting scope question

You can use the cheaper rounds to get you close then finish with the actual rounds you intend to hunt with. Bore sight may have you on paper, I’d start at 25-50yrds then push back.

Let the barrel cool between shots or you will start straying your shots.

You can use cheap rounds to get close if you have some to burn. But no matter what you’re going to want to get it zeroed at the end using the round you will hunt with.

If it’s bore sighted, hopefully you will be on paper at 100 yards. Shoot once and if it’s not on paper, move the target to 25 yards and try to get it centered before moving back to 100.

Once at 100, you can conserve ammo if you have a steady enough rest by shooting once and then dialing the crosshairs from the bullseye to the bullet hole. Next shot should be pretty close to zero.

How many rounds does this save you?

You should be able to sight in a rifle in under 10 rounds. If not either you don't know what you are doing or you shouldn't trust the rifle.

Here is what I would do.
Shoot it at 25yds, you want to about 1in low and dead center at that range. Make any adjustments to get that based on that first shot. Remember that you have to move the dial 16 times to get 1in at 25yds if it’s 1/4in per click at 100yds!!!
Move to 100yd and fire a shot into a one inch gridded target and observe location of impact and then adjust based on how many inches/clicks you are off.
If you have a good sandbag you can set the gun and adjust cross hairs to match bullet impact but it’s hard to make sure the gun don’t move during dialing.
As for the bullets some of the cheap ones (hornady whitetail and rem cor lokt) are great bullets for most deer hunting and some of the cheapest to be bought.
