Just bought the pro hunter 35 whelen and need a little help. I am shooting Nosler Accubond 225 grain bullets.

Problem is I don't have a place to shoot it 100 yards to sight in this time of the year during hunting season.

Question: How many inches high at 25 yards to be dead on at 100 yds? (Shooting by camp)

I'm going to guess dead on at 25yds. But I'm not an expert.

Have no idea on the ballistics of that combination but I would think if your max shot is 100yds, dead on to 1/2 high should be money.

Max shot is around 200 yards. From research, if the gun is dead on at 100 yards it should be 3.7 inches low at 200 which isn't bad for 225 grains.

Just looking to get close at 100.

Thanks, guys.

Not sure what ammo you're using but if it's this (nosler custom handload) then you need to be 0.7" high at 25 yards. That's assuming your cross hairs are 1.5" above the center of your bore. Even if the sight height is 2" it only changes it to 0.8" high at 25 yards.

If you know the ballistic coefficient of your bullet and the muzzle speed (or can find it on the web) this is a good website.

Yeah that's what I used BC = .421 and a MV of 2800 FPS.

25 yds = +0.7"
100 yds = -0-
200 yds = -3.7"
300 yds = -13.7"

My 35 whelen is sighted in 2.5" high at 100 yds. I am shooting a 180 grain Barnes TTSX loaded by Doubletap. 3100 fps at muzzle. I found this load to be head and shoulders better than the previous loads I have tried. Grouping 1.5" at 100 yds on a CVA Scout. The gun can probably do better... the shooter sucks. Best I could do with loads before was about 3".

I have quit carrying my 300 wsm and gone to this gun for all gun seasons for simplicity sake. My buddy in the club has the same gun and we have both rolled out a few does so far. Its an amazing weapon.

Where do you buy/order that ammo? I have a 35 Whelen on a Mauser action that I love. I expect to split a few deer in half with it next week in West Texas.

I wouldn't be to crazy about taking a 100 yard shot (much less 200) with a rifle that I've only shot at 25 yards. At least shoot it once at 100 yards right when you get to your stand in the evening or something to make sure it's on. Dead on at 25 is usually on the paper at 100 yards.

I've sighted in a number of my rifles at TP Outdoors 25 yd indoor range because of time constraints. It works...at least for shots within a decent range out to 175 yards. I've killed deer from 100 to 175 yds without a miss for years. At least the two I didn't load in the truck, that I remember, I considered my fault.

No problem. These rounds do insane damage. Shoot right behind the shoulders or you will turn them to jelly. But I think you will find they pattern very well.

I'll place an order for sure. I'm shooting a Remington 200 grain right now that does the trick(massive exit wounds every time), but I'd like to drop down to the 180 grain.

Yeah, there's no reason to shoot those big heavy slugs at whitetails.
