Nah, bro. I have a freezer full of deer meat and an AR-15 that I've shot 14 times.

I figure anything that requires battery power will be useless a week after SHTF situation.

Good luck finding batteries or power to recharge.

I got to play around with some developmental white phosphor NVGs this week. It's incredible. The white viewing doesn't strain the eyes and no washout from lights. Literally looks like early morning light shining through, very clear. The outline function places an orange highlight on shapes and makes everything pop out. Looked like a damn video game or something from Tron.

I typically prefer IR for driving and spotting then thermal on the rifle.

Well there are plenty of solar recharging options right?

I’m far from an expert, but from what I’ve read, it’s very difficult to conceal yourself from thermal imaging. Even if you’re “hidden” behind bushes or grass that would make it very difficult or impossible to be seen by typical night vision systems, thermal imaging will pick up your heat signature that can’t be seen by IR systems.

I’m sure there are some hog hunters here that have used both that could corroborate this.

Yep. That is accurate. Bushes will reflect the night vision IR back out you make it difficult to see something in the brush. Not a problem w/ thermal. Thermal is much better IMHO.

NV and thermal both have their place but I’m going helmet mounted thermal monoculars all day long over NV. Can’t hide from thermals.

They each have their place. I wonder how a hybrid binocular setup would work. The thermal could be set to green to match the NV side. And you could see behind glass.

One thing I noticed about thermal that was kind of crazy was it picking up a reflection off of water. I was watching some deer feed at the edge of my pond and you could see their reflection on the surface of the water like a shadow.

Got a pvs14 gen 3. Very versatile. Can be hand held, head mounded, and weapon mounted behind the right red dot sight.
