I started with a merkur long handle, then bought a gillette slim adjustable, hoffritz slant bar, gem micromatic open comb, a rolls razor, and was given an injector style razor. I like them all, but I find myself using the micromatic and slant bar because they are aggresive without being dangerous like the rolls. I have a cheap boar hair, a shea moisture shave black badger hair, and a custom grade a slivertip badger brush. the shea was a good deal for ten dollars, but the silvertip is unbelievable.
creams: proraso, TOBS avocado, erasmic, truefitt and hill grafton,
soaps: arko, several from the shave den
I have a lot of shaving stuff but it makes something that is generally a chore into a relaxing experience. I also have a couple straights that I havent had the balls to try yet.
If you are looking for good videos on traditional shaving I would recommend Mantic59 on youtube. Many new traditional razors and blades can be purchased on amazon. I would recommend this for a newcomer. If you want to buy hard to find or different styles you can try antique stores, ebay, and forums. antique stores can be good places to find old razors and often times are inexpensive because they haven't been cleaned up although they are fully functional. Traditional shaving can be very inexpensive compared to cartridges. Buying shaving stuff can be a lot like owning guns. It can be addictive so buyer beware.

I shave when i feel like It.
Shaved with a pocket knife once.
I dont care about anything other than getting the hair off my face when i want it off.
I usually just use clippers.

You know how little kids like to pretend shave" My granddad did that with his father's straight razor when he was about four years old. He still had a scar on his face as an old man.

I left my razor at the house and forgot to get it the last couple times I went home. So I've been using just the mach 3 cartridge without stick attached. PITA

I've thought about getting a straight razor a few times so I don't have to deal with clogging it up when I don't shave every day. With a multi-blade rig, I have to either shave every day or clip it first.
The time I shaved with my pocket knife really wasn't that bad. It did a good job, but I was scared to death the whole time

My start up costs really weren't that high. I could have made it a little cheaper but I got a new Merkur with a few blade to start off, a real badger hair brush, and some soap. All off of Amazon for $74 including shipping. You could get a boar hair brush for cheaper and a used safety razor off of ebay for cheaper. Keep in mind though that most of this stuff is designed to last a long time. The blades for the razor are $0.15 a piece. If you get a quality brush, it will last a long time and the soap lasts several months up to a year or more sometimes.

Merkur short handle, badger hair, some sort of sandalwood soap.
I have to shave 1/2 as often, and after 4 months the initial investment has already paid for itself.
No more razor burn, and the closest shave I've ever had.

EASTBAY,
Wow! That's quite a collection of soaps! Which ones do you like. How much does the shipping/handling usually run?

Schwartz,
Bought a tub of that once form "Taylor of Old Bond Street" because everyone seemed to like it on a shaving forum. Unfortunately, I don't like it...... Still have another 6 months of it or so before I use it up.... That's the worst part of buying different soaps w/o having first smelled it. Wish they had smaller, trial size versions available.

I shave once a week, I just look like a hobo by the time it gets to a week
this thread has me interested...i have to be clean shaven for work, sometimes i'm running late and run a dull arse mach 3 with hot water down my face (partly bc i'm lazy and partly bc im too cheap to pay for mach 3 razors), blot the blood on the way to work...i purposely shaved tuesday morning and successfully made it through the week without being told anything, got 9 days off coming up to look like a hobo

This is rediculous.
