Trapping restarted in the mid 70s, first few years ONLY Cameron and Vermillion parishes because they were going into yards attacking children, pigs and chickens. Before this population control was to trap and ship live to repopulate Florida swamps and marshes.
Early 60s fishing with dad in the marshes there were always at least a half dozen around where any bass were. Dad would get pissed off at me for casting a jitterbug towards them to watch a small 8 footer chase my bait. The again I was under 10 years old.

I’m not sure what prices are for this year but in 2025 4-4”11 ft was a flat $5, a 5 ft was worth $17.50 and a 6ft was $27. That’s what buyers were paying. Not exactly big money.
