Going with the vortex crossfire ii at $150 price from Academy.
We shoot 180-200gr. Hope it holds up.
I’d be all about the iron sights but the guy using swears he’s gonna make shots over 100

Yeah, europtic lists it as 2.5-3.7 which seems…not ideal. Does it seem that short/variable to you?

This is a shite Chinese scope, will not hold up to the recoil. Cry once, cry twice, your choice. I say that respectfully bc I've been in your shoes.

Yea, SWFA 3-15x42 has something like 3.5" on the low end and it's definitely not known for super long eye relief. It's got to be an error. Trijicon makes top notch shite, I don't believe the 2.5" part at all.

What rings did you have on it?

I did a little googling, and several people on Rockside say they have one and think the correct number should be 3.5” on the low end.
I have the 3-12 and I've never noticed an issue with eye relief and I'd be surprised if Trijicon botched something that basic on the 3-9.. $300 is a screaming good deal on that scope. Glass is comparable (to my old eyes) to my Razor HD glass.

I've got to figure something out...
I see three options:
1. Lap the scope rings. This might not can be done depending on your scope rings. If you have what I think you have, you'll have to go to #2.
2. Change scope rings. Admittedly a lot of respected shooters here like the one piece scope/scope base. I'm not a fan of them. I tried them once, and it didn't match up well w/ the turrets on my scope, preventing me from moving th scope in the rings frontward or backward. For a number of years, only I've used a one piece Weaver slot base w/ Burris Weaver type Signature Z-rings (the ones w/ the plastic inserts). Since I've been using these rings, I no longer lap the scope rings. On my XP 100 handguns chambered in <30 caliber, I use 2 rings (even in the 284 Win); if chambered in 30 caliber or higher, I use 3 rings. Which brings me to option #3.
3. Add a third ring.
Let us know what works for you.

I checked the manual it also says 2.5-3.7. I don’t think it has short eye relief and I think the eye box is very forgiving. I feel like they must measure their differently or something. I haven’t seen eye relief problems with any trijicons I’ve looked through.

I have that same scope on my .35, no problems at all.

That’s what came on mine and it wouldn’t hold zero. Took it off and bought the Huron. I wouldn’t put a cross fire on it. Just my opinion.

A number of scopes should meet your needs. I'd suggest looking at Redifeld, Vortex (I've been happy w/ my 3 although all are on light recoiling guns), Leopold and Burris, to name a few. These two scopes would fit your needs and fit in your price range.
Burris Fullfield IV 2.5-10x and Burris Fullfield E1 3-9X. I'm not sure if either reticle would work for you. Depending on the distances you shoot, a conventional crosshair might do. You could also consider getting a fixed 4X and save some money. You can also look for a good scope on hunting forums classified ads. I've bought 3 or 4 scopes like this and been pleased w/ all. I've also been pleased w/ customer service from Leupold, Burris and Vortex.
Using good rings is important to stabilize your scope and avoid reliability issues. I prefer one piece Weaver slotted bases and Burris Signature Z-rings (the ones w/ the plastic inserts).

DNZ one-piece, switched scopes, problem solved.

Damnit. Can’t think of a reason I shouldn’t buy this for a future gun

I have a Burris C4 (discontinued model) which is a 3x9 with a 30mm main tube, with Warne rings on a .444. The rings are lapped and all threads are locked with sealant and torqued to spec. I have had no issues with scope accuracy…

Question for OP: is it a 1st gen Scout with a Bergara stamped barrel? Even if not, its still a great rifle at 200yds. No reason to hold it back. Find some ammo it likes, invest in a good scope setup, and enjoy it.

Burris Fulfield II 3x9
I have one one my 35 Whelen for about 10 years now never a problem.
Sub $200

I havent hunted with it in a couple years. but when I originally zeroed...I found out that it likes the Federal Fusion 200gr (maybe it was 180 gr) regardless....I have some at the camp. Federal makes great rounds.

I have been using 200 gr Federal Fusion as well with great success
