The video of the guy cleaning saltwater catfish is wrong. You take the sharp knife and stab them in the gut and then throw them overboard.
People are too soft these days. There was a time when there was no such thing as throwing back a hardhead alive

There’s no way I’m eating a turd hustler. Tried gaftop, because I was told, and juice ain’t worth the squeeze plus I catch enough good fish to not bother. The wife loves sitting in trees of Verret catching blues and channels so I clean enough for big fish fries, call them company fish because that’s what I feed company. But to me catfish excel when used to feed crabs, in my traps

Southeast Texas bays have warnings about eating bottom feeders due to water pollution from industry. I only eat catfish from the lakes TB or Sam Rayburn

Marsh blue cats are fantastic to eat.

I will admit that I’ve been in scenarios where we needed fish to eat that night and water was dirty or weren’t catching trout for whatever reason, and we would keep gafftops. They’re good eating if you trim the bloodline off.
