I’m heading to lake Bruin for a few days. Mostly bass fishing but I might want to throw something out for sac a lait so I’d like to have a setup in the boat. I’m going to hit the bait shop tomorrow. Someone help me out with a combo to buy and what type of lure I’ll need. I’ve never actually targeted sac a lait. Thanks in advance fellow outdoor boarders.

6'0" spinning rod rated for 2-8 or 4-10 with a Daiwa 1000 series reel.

I have several 6 ft Zebco 33 combo's in the boat for sac au lait. The rods have the perfect amount of tip. The combo is around $25 at Academy and have a lifetime parts warranty from Zebco.

Beetle spin or Pond Magic spinner will work well this time of year. Regular 16th oz jig head hook with a 1.5 or 2 inch tube jig under a small stopper.

I've found the matrix shad mini works well for sacs too. Particularly the blue one.

I just use those kind of like a cane pole that you can extend and tie a slip cork on. Mostly see 10ft but would prefer an 8ft since my boat is small and sometimes it’s hard to get line in the water with such a long pole. They come with like 20-25 ft of line which I usually cut 5-10 ft off

Great question...I don't have one yet

Unfortunately, I may be drinking more beer than fishing with the forecast for the two days I'm there. But either way I'm getting out there and giving it a try. Hoping to pick up some good knowledge here before I go.

Look I don't know how much you want to spin on this combo. but, A 6' OR 7'rod is too short. Sac's have a very soft mouth and a stiff rod will tear the fish's mouth. If you want to get serious about fishing Sac's look for 10'to 12' pole Crappie king or even bass pro has there own brand. This is what you need. The pole is very flimsy and will give you the correct soft hook set. that being said my perfect reel is the smallest lews spinning reel you can find. lastly use only 4 to 6 lb test. I use a 4 lb spiderwire. works very well. I hope this helps

Very much Jimbo. Thanks for the comments. I'll take all the advice and tips I can get.

This is 100% WRONG.

Terrible advice. I fish crappie 12 months a year. I absolutely hate using these things. Only do when I have to get up in the button woods.

Long poles are great for dipping brush piles or accessible cover, but that's it. If you need to cast, go shorter.

I’ve caught lots of crappie on 5 1/2 &6 ft ultralights throwing Beetlespins or Roadrunners.I like using 10 and 11 ft jigging poles for fishing around stumps and cypress trees also.
I’ve seen days they would bite Beetlespins better than anything else.I’ve had some good days with those tiny Rattletraps.

There is no such fish in Lake Bruin. No sac a lait or crappie. Hopefully the white perch are biting for you though!!

good luck

5'6" ultralight spinning combo with #6 mono.
#6 Eagle Claw aberdeen hooks
Split shot
Small "split" corks with the peg
Frabil Flo-Troll minnow bucket tied to 6 ft of rope
3 dozen minnows

Notes-
Typically I do 4# test but with live bait you might hook something bigger than you planned so go 6# on this rig.
Fish around all the same structure you'd fish for bass or anything else.
When you catch one crappie, often there's 100 more in that same spot.
If you are mostly bass fishing, just keep a minnow a few feet under cork trolling behind the boat.

But you also don't catch many fish.
