I know some guys that fish with pieces of hot dog weiners, but never tried it. I always used cut bait or shad.

That's what we did at my great grandparents catfish pond. We would catch worms to use as bait, but usually caught more on the old pink hot dogs. Cane pole and a hot dog caught enough fish to fry every time we went down there.

Beginning to think I was the only one... That was all we ever used growing up.. Take a dip net and go hit a bunch of ditches and use railroad spikes as the weights.. Would tear them up..

Don't you have to microwave Ivory and stir it up while hot so it doesn't float?

Maybe. I don't know. We never had to do anything like that. Cut it up straight from the store packaging and then put it on a hook.

If after channel cats the very best is catalpa worms but they are not out yet. Cheap hot dogs(cut up) soaked in minced garlic and strawberry kool aid is good also but hard to keep on hooks.

Try out Mexican "Zote" soap. Now available at Walmart. The pink one.

If the bar is fresh you can cut into chunks easily. If not, microwave until slightly soft.

Catches only catfish (I did catch a goo and a choupique once but not often). And it doesn't stink up your hands. And it's $1/bar.

For flatheads, small live mudcats are #1 and small live buffalo are #2. Xtra large shiners or goldfish, or live bream a distance third.

For blue cats, whatevet cut bait is cheapest. Usually cut buffalo or skipjack. Catawpa worms if you can get them.

I do not use any of that soap/aluminum cans bullshite.

thanks guys. have to say the ivory soap is intriguing as my father told me hes caught many on it.

Im kind of surprised that some method that is popular in oklahoma hasnt even been heard of in louisiana.

Heard this and tried it. Nothing on them, yet several flatheads on small bream on the same line. The bream out caught the baby buffs as well. For flats, i really don't think anything beats small bream.

My secretary's husband uses large cans. Cuts hole in top, drills holes in bottom and hangs them from trot lines. No bait. Catfish go in to lay, do not come out. Raises cans, catches plenty of catfish. I had never heard of this before, but sure works.

White Rock hard dog terds work well if u soak them in vinegar then put them in the fridge and mold them around the hook when they get solid.
