Running across Lake Maurepas to Ponchartrain

Just for kicks, I've contemplated launching my bay boat at Canal Bank on the Diversion, running to Maurepas, then maybe up to Tickfaw, or better yet to Madisonville.
Anything in particular to watch out for or be concerned with on this jaunt?
I assume a nice wind would make both of those lakes not very fun for ride in a bay boat.

When you hit the mouth of maurepas atcthe blind river stay south in the channel. It is about 1:15 minutes run

I’ve been in the little lake during really bad weather back in my ignorance phase and seen stumps in the troughs of the waves.

Just be careful if you decide to enter the mouth of the Tangipahoa River. The rest is easy.

I do this quite often but normally backwards from the way you plan to. I'll launch at mouth of Tchefuncte and ride to the Tickfaw or way up Blind river. The wind is the only real obstacle, follow the channel markers out of the rivers and stay a couple hundred yards from the lake banks and you'll be good to go.

Good fun run
Make sure when you approach Maddieville you stay west, follow the channel markers in

They just dredged it. Also got a nice new public ramp.

Over the summer I ran from the prop stop to t-rivers in my prodigy boat with a 37 gator tail. It’s an 18/51 surface drive boat and the motor is a tiller handle. The ride there took a while but wasn’t bad. We left t-rivers with just enough light to get back in perfect conditions and a storm blew in. It was getting real dark on us in maurepas and the waves were much bigger than my boat is built to handle. Definitely the dumbest thing I’ve done in my boat and the closest I’ve been to sinking it.

I have been out of town for the last couple of years but that's good to hear.

I've done this a few times in a bay boat. I live off the diversion and have friends that have camps on north pass. I can say thag lake Maurepaus is dirty. The mouth is real bad. Stay left and hug the buoys to the Chanel.

Lake Maurepas is notorious for floating semi-submerged logs wandering around out there, especially with any recent storms shuffling around where there are at.
i wouldnt do it without semi-calm water to give you a chance to see them.
its faster and cheaper, as well as less abusive on the boat to just drive to manchac to launch, crossing Lake Maurepas is scary as frick after heavy rains because its literally an obstical coarse for days after.

Thanks for the info guys.
Like I said, just for kicks, may never do it. But if I do, I'll do it on a nice weather day.
What's the typical depth of Maurepas?

I'm not 100% on this, but I think the average is around 8'.. but them stumps extend way out from the bank. Don't get me wrong, it's navigable, just be smart. Stick to your channel markers and stay 200yds off the bank and you'll be fine.

it's a fun boat ride. me and ms mack run from tin lizzies to mitendorf's several times each year to go eat. as long as there isn't a strong SE wind its a nice boat ride.
a little chop is nice to get the female flotation devices bouncing

I’ve ran from blind river launch in st James to the diversion, then all the way to the middeneorf’s on 55. It was a fun ride. That was in a 23 hydra sport. It’s nothing but gas.

I've made that run several times. Not sure what size boat you have but you'll be able to handle maurepas easy in good weather. Follow the markers coming out of tickfaw as it is getting narrow. Mouth of the amite is tricky as well if you've never been down it. Imo the amite river is the best view to just ride.
One thing to watch for coming from tickfaw headed towards south pass is an outrigger of a sunk shrimp boat. It's sticking up a few feet out of the water. Last time I was out there, someone had put cones and such on it to try and make it more visible.
The big lake can get bad. I've experienced more big swells than white caps. I've never been across to nola but I have been to Madisonville for lunch several times. BE SURE to follow markers at the mouth of the Tchefuncte. It is extremely shallow if you try to go straight into mouth. You make a dog leg to get into it. Follow the markers and have fun.
Looking forward to summer time now!
