Restaurant Lobby Fighting State Control of Red Snapper

As expected, restaurant lobby fighting legislation to allow state control of fisheries, specifically red snapper.
Restaurant Lobby Letter
quote:
Fishing for support: A coalition of Gulf Coast chefs and restaurant owners is urging lawmakers to vote against a federal fisheries bill that reauthorizes a law passed in 1976 to govern federal fisheries. In a letter, members of the coalition—who hail from New Orleans, Lake Charles, Lafayette and even Tennessee—say the bill, which normally enjoys bipartisan support, was marked up in a committee and now increases the risk of overfishing in the Gulf. The bill is likely to be brought to the House floor and voted on during the current session.

Does the CCA get involved in this?

if they do it will be to eliminate recreation fishing all together, thats all CCA is about is restricting fishing rights, never about changes based on science that says more fishing should be allowed because the resource is healthy

I would agree with you most times, but not in this case. CCA is 100% in favor of state control of the red snapper fishery (disclaimer: I am not a CCA member). They have been helping push US congressional legislation with Garret Graves (H.R. 200 and H.R. 2023) and state legislation. They were against the test pilot program last year for harvest reporting since only a select few would have the opportunity to catch a certain quota.

CCA is opposed to ending oyster dredges in favor of tonging
CCA is opposed to ending all marsh being made private and off limits to the public
CCA is opposed to increasing limits on redfish and drum when every scientific study says its needed for a healthy fish stocks and massive overpopulation is devastating the crab and oysters stocks to the point of needing drastic regulations to save them.
i just have not seen CCA do a damn thing that did not in some way or form hurt recreational fishermen.
CCA is not a friend to recreation fishermen or louisiana in general. the do thing that favor texas fishermen first and foremost above all else and are a political lobbying group for commercial interests and large private land owners who want to own and or control all natural resources for the restricted use of a few select chosen people to manipulate and benefit from.
maybe, just maybe, somehow they are on the right side on a few select things but i see no reason to trust them any more then i would trust a crack whore/meth head prostitute

You sound like a drunk at the fish camp. CCA is by no means perfect but just about everything you've said is bullshite.

Which CCA committee member cucked you?

Pretty simple. Don't eat at any of the places you deem to be anti-recreational fisherman. Hated seeing Brennan on there

The restaurant lobby, the Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board as well as others have long ago drank the EDF cool-aid and are lobbying hard to keep as many fisheries as possible under federal control and headed to catch shares.
.
They will continue to do so until you all speak with your voices and your wallets and stop buying finfish at restaurants and grocery stores.
.
The funny part is the catch share lobby, specifically the charter boats that are in favor of it are pulling a fast one on the restaurant lobby and they do not even realize it. Dually permitted boats (those permitted with commercial catch shares but are also charter boats) are currently selling charter trips but using their commercial catch shares. Basically they are using their customers to catch the fish and fill their commercial orders but catching more fish than needed for the order and selling them back to the customer through the fish house at retail instead of wholesale prices. These guys know that they can get more money from the individual than the wholesale market and are just waiting for this to expand, taking more fish off of the restaurant's tables.
.
The department of labor has said that the practice is illegal but will not investigate because they do not meet the threshold for the number of employees.
.
Don't purchase wild caught finfish from markets or restaurants!

And why was it fair to give more days to charter captains the the rec guys got?

Thank you I go to Coquette all of the time and now will boycott their restaurant.

SIAP but former Gov. Foster specifically called them out in this nola.com op ed LINK
quote:
Chefs, restaurateurs and commercial fishers brazenly and without merit accuse recreational fishers and federal and state lawmakers who are advancing badly-needed reforms of federal recreational fisheries management of being "unaccountable" and "irresponsible."
quote:
These chefs and commercial operators are being plied, sometimes paid, by very well-funded environmental groups from outside of Louisiana, like the Environmental Defense Fund.

The EDF has always been a front for the commercial fishing lobby, good that someone is finally putting that in print.

its off subject, but this really grinds my gears. I was doing my daily internet scouting by by camp in cocodrie, and I fount this disturbing image. you can see where the oyster boats have destroyed the islands and habitat.
And here is what I found on Craigslist.

$40 a pound? And that's without the purchaser's markup. Who pays that much for red snapper?
Posted on 1/25/18 at 6:19 pm to Elusiveporpi
Yeah frick that. You shouldn't be able to sell those shares.
