I think I am going to start picking up some things to start reloading. I have rifles 308 762x39 300blk 223/556 45/70 6.5g and pistol just 45 and 9.

I do have a few PCC shooting the 9 and 45 so I think I want to just jump into a progressive loader unless thats a mistake. Id like to be able to do some bulk target loads that have general good accuracy but I wouldn't mind making some more precision loads for target and hunting.

For the main componet I was looking at the Dillon line like the 750xl or the 550c. Good to go? Is there something else I should be looking at?

I will need to learn all the tools & tricks of the trade but id like to start getting equipment now in lite of whats going on today. I should have already got the stuff I know but I'd guess better late than never.

Dillon progressive for sure. I wouldn’t get anything under the 750xl.

Tom Duchman is a Dillon dealer in Slidell who knows Anything and everything About Dillon. He also has some units in stock. Talk to him and he can point you in the direction you need to go.

ETA, I have his cell. What’s your email and I’ll send it to you.

I would highly recommend the 550c

I have the 550b. I prefer it over the 650/750 because to change calibers on the 650/750 takes a while to do.
On the 550 it takes me 5 min and that is changing out the primer tube size.
I've been able to load 50+ cartridges in 5 mins on the 550. The 657/750 will definitely be faster but I like my 550.

My FIL has one of each in the 550, 650, and 1050. The 650 and 1050 never changes calibers.

The 550 does.

Let me know if you have any questions on them.

Also, the tool head and caliber conversion are a decent amount more expensive on the 650/750

I am sure the 550 would do what I need but part of the problem is I dont really know what I need I am assuming it will take a while to get all the parts powders primers and so on so I will do some reading in the mean time. I just want to figure out a good starting point. I have plenty (if there is such a thing) of loaded factory ammo for now.

This one looks nice and is set for 9 and 223 with the dies that look to be backpacked but included in this kit if I am reading right?

XL 750 RELOADER PACKAGE 9 MM & .223/5.56 MM
Stock Number: 9223XL650PKG

Don't get a 550, go 750 all the way. I'd get a 1100 if I got another press.

What would make you get the 1100 over the 750?

Also what size bench would you think would be a good size to fit everything. I am going to see if I can fit another dedicated bench in my little shop area for it.

Problem right now is components. If you are lucky you can find powder and bullets. But primers (small pistol & small rifle) are nowhere to be found. Other than that go for it.

I know, that’s why I’m looking at stuff now. I have plenty factory ammo so I’m not in a rush/bind to start reloading. So I have time to get what I can and read up.

Powder Valley has all the power you could want.

I can't find bullets right now. I have a decent amount but would like more.

I bought a bunch of primers of every size back 3-4 mths ago. Even at that, I would mind finding more.

Large rifle is findable. Nothing else is though

Most places that you can order bullets from are 4-6 weeks out from delivery. I know La gun and reloading in BR has some in stock, but not a lot.

It looks like the RL1100 (if I went that way) is out for a few weeks as well so im ok with back ordering things and having to wait. This is a long term goal of mine so a cpl months is ok.

What bbvdd said. I also have a 550b and it is a great machine. I prefer the manual progressive over the automatic because I can control it. I can carefully load about 200 rounds an hour of 9mm and speedball 300+. Dillons are great machines no matter which you choose. As others have said, components (powder, bullets, primers) are in very short supply now.

I know nothing about progressive loading equipment, but I came across this used Dillon XL650 possibly for sale on a different forum. I've loaded all my ammo >30 years using a Lee Classic Turret. Using a Harrell's powder thrower I can turn out quality rifle ammo 75 rounds/hour. I don't load large quantities of pistol ammo anymore, but when I did I could do about 150-200 rounds/hr.

Surprised I didn't see this...

Here's my very old reloading tutorial. I filmed it about 8 years ago so a few of the components have been upgraded but overall I still use the same method.

My best piece of advice though - spend the coin and get a stainless tumbler. It's expensive up front but you never replace media and the ammo comes out looking exactly the same.

If you want to start on a single stage, the RCBS Partner Press is excellent. I actually managed to wear out one and RCBS replaced it for free. Doesn't get much better than that!
