I am transferring the registration on my truck to Louisiana from Mississippi. It is a 2018 Chevy LT half ton four wheel drive. 34,000 miles. They valued it at $32,800 which is too high and they want $1,900 for a truck tag. I was not expecting it to be that high. That is crazy Any loopholes or advice?

Thanks for any help.

What is blue book value on it?

I'm not sure what kind of recourse you have. Perhaps it has some damage they did not notice, or a very severe mechanical problem you have yet to address? If it had a loud noise coming from the driveshaft while it was moving that sounded similar to an industrial tie wrap around the shaft but was actually transmission noise, that would make it damn near worthless?

Wait till you get the bill for insurance
Rav4 would be less expensive to insure in La. Pay up buddy, JBE needs his money for Rona patients.

Sell it to your buddy in mississippi for a dollar. Let him put it in his name. Sell it back to you for a dollar. Put 500 on BOS.

Should only cost around 140 for plate tag taxes.

As long as you never Louisiana driver's license at the time it's fine

Bit the same bullet recently. A few posts mention sell it to a buddy so that on paper you bought it dirt cheap, but this only works if the truck is paid off.

Should be less than 1900 though, as current taxable amount on out of state registration is NADA value less 15% minus any taxes already paid on the vehicle. If you don't do it within 30 days, you lose your credit for previously paid taxes on the vehicle which may be where some of the issue is.

I'd visit your local title transfer, tell them you want to transfer out of state registration. They'll ask what day you imported the vehicle to Louisiana.

Choose your title transfer carefully, and remember that you will need to declare the date you imported it. Your paperwork does not state the import date, so your statement is considered the legal date the vehicle was imported.

If you're near Metairie, Quik Notary on Vets was very informative about the whole process and had excellent customer service.

Wait, what?

Don’t you get credit for the taxes you paid to the previous state? This isn’t like buying a truck in another state, paying no sales tax there, and paying LA sales tax on it.
