True. That one rascal made like this wasn't a serious planning thread and then all the sudden folks start talking about pulling goats' teeth and stuff.

Tigerfoot is worth whatever you can pay him. He could whup that motorcycle dude from Mad Max in a heartbeat, and catch white perch and kill all the ducks you could eat. Dudes from Swartz were made for the post-Apocolypse, just like the guys from Bawcomville.

I am a social drinker, life is so busy that I don't social that much. Just a glass every now and then which allows me to add to the collection. I have another batch a bottles (another 20-30) of lower end stuff. It has been pushed out of my main cabinet due to space and weight concerns...

1. Ammo(lots of it) and weapons: rifles, shotguns, pistols and pellet rifles. Knifes, pepper spray(Freeze +P, Sabre, Fox Labs) billy-clubs, baseball bats, collapable batons...

Good hand to hand fighting skills...And get in at least good physical condition.

A group of WELL-TRUSTED folks around you, most likely family...

Get out of the big urban areas, especially where there is large contingent of folks supported by welfare. The goobermint tit will run dry and these folks are not gonna know how to survive. And guess where they are gonna come to looking for food & water?

The first two weeks are gonna be hellacious. Starving people will turn into animals.
EVen people you may think are 'friends' will turn into foes. Look up '72 hours to animal'.

Massad Ayoob has many good books on fire-arms, look into his books

You are going to have to be a savage. If you are willy-nilly about it, you and your family will get eaten alive.
Remember the old saying, the life you save could be your own.
In a SHFT scenerio, there will be NO RULES.

2. Lots of bottled water. It keeps at least two years. Keep it out the sun to prevent algae growth. Forget storing water in plastic milk jugs, get several containers like Aqua Tainers or you can use two liter soda bottles.

Keep some unscented liquid bleach on hand, just remember, after about 6 months, it starts to degrade.
A few bottles of Iodine, kills most virus & bacteria.

A couple of bags of 'pool shock' will last you for years. You can make a couple gallons of 'bleach' with just a small amount(1 teaspoon).
Pool shock is very reactive so handle with care, use rubber gloves when handling, don't breathe it or get in your eyes.

Just remember, chlorine and boiling will only kill microbes. Water may have chemical contamination as well.

This is why you need a good filtration system to remove chemical contaminates.

The best by far is the Sawyer filters, the model #SP140 is a very good one.

Katadyn makes a good filtration system.

Big Berkey is a good.

Monolithic has a good setup.

Water, other than weapons, is your most IMPORTANT asset in SHTF.

3. Food, a few MREs to get you through the hard spots. Just remember, MREs are not that easy on your digestion system. They are to get you out of a bind.

Can goods, like tuna, salmon, sardines, fruits, vegatables, raviolis.... Can goods will last at least two years, if not longer. Rotate out your stock.
Ramen noodles, although they will keep only a few months.
Powdered milk, a good source of protein.

Here is a quick list for SHTF:
20 lbs of white rice
10 lbs Pinto beans
5 lbs of red beans
5 lbs of Navy beans
5 lbs of salt
10 lbs of sugar
A few bottles of hot sauce

This list would be enough to get two people by for a few months. While it may be bland and boring, it would provide enough nutrition to get you through the first few months.

Also
20 lbs of whole oat groat
20 lbs of red bakers wheat.

Whole wheat & oats can be chopped up. Soak wheat overnight, oats are instant. Boil for about 20 minutes.

Store your food in food grade plastic buckets. Avoid used buckets that have had chemicals stored in them. The chemicals will leech into your food.

Beans & wheat are O2 sensitive. You will need oxygen absorbers for beans, wheat & oats.
You can buy these high dollar O2 absorbers OR you can buy 'hand warmers' a whole lot cheaper. They are basically the same thing.

Coleman Stove and a good supply of propane bottles.

Start collecting Depression era recipes, find some Amish cook books...

A good first Aid kit
Magnesium strikers
Sewing needles thread. Also 5 lb test fishing line
Ivory soap
Rubbing alcohol
Plenty of toilet paper
A few rolls of barbed wire to secure your perimeter.
Toothbrushes
Gloves
Fishing hooks , fishing line(several different strengths) floats, lead sinkers

Gardening tools like rakes, shovels...
Seeds
Axes, hatchets, machetes...

Several good books on First Aid
*Rubber gloves, alcohol, needles, tweezers, surgeon stitching, masks...

Antiboitics, believe it or not, fish antiboitics are a lot cheaper and are basically the same thing as the stuff you at the store.

Try to get in good with some nurses and doctors...

A few books to consider:

Dare to Prepare by Holly Drennan Deyo

Where there are no doctors

When Technology Fails, Mathew Stein

Citizen Soldier, A manual of Community based Defense.

Anything by Massad Ayoob.

Long list, yes I know but the prepared are gonna have the biggest chance of survival.

Own over 40 guns, will gladly let those without guns borrow them. Have plenty of ammo for most of them.
Full set of tools and solid mechanic and electrical skills
Fishing rods and reels, plus a boat.
Good at grilling
Ability to get along with many different types of people..I have good leadership and strategy skills.
I'm a pretty big guy and can defend myself and others even without a weapon.
I'm fairly calm under pressure and try to keep a focused mind
I'm very good at "rigging" stuff so exact parts for broken equipment may not be necessary.
I know how to survive without technology and in the wilderness..have been on numerous trips in the Canadian wilderness hunting and fishing with only food and equipment packs and a canoe.

Think I have everything on that list and them some. Another thing we have is a large walk in pantry that we keep full of canned foods/sauces/salt/sugar etc. We could survive months just on what's in it. We just replace it as we go. Have several of the books you have listed and several not listed. Reference books are a must. Anything good I find online is printed out and laminated and saved in a file.
