Been looking at new trucks and wanted some input in the Ram 2500 from current owners? Looked at a crew cab, Laramie, Cummings. I’ve also looked at the F250’s. Just starting my journey to a new truck and seeing how they’re holding up? Warranty/service support? Towing?

I tow a 22’ bay boat and I tow my camper 1-2 a yr. looking to get a larger camper or 5th wheel so will need 3/4 ton to do so.

Also, where would you buy? Ralph Sellers, Matt Bowers, All Star?

Bought one last summer. Love it.

Bought from Autonation in Katy TX, was worth the $200 one way ticket. Except for that ghey pink license plate frame they give you.

bought mine a year ago. it's definitely the best fuel mileage of all diesels.

the ride is good from factory tires/settings

i'd say that the ford is the better looking diesel.

I test drove a 2020 not too long ago. Quietest ride I've ever had in a truck. It is really nice from a comfort perspective. The air conditioner sucks, major design flaw.

The engine was changed up a good bit in '19 to make it quieter and less shakey. The changes were a net negative IMO, mainly the change of the fuel system to the same one Ford is using. Personally, i don't see where the new ram has anything going for it besides price when compared to the F250. The 250's have a 10 speed, bigger fuel tanks, more power, and a better interior IMO.

Don't rule out a gas burner. You'd be fine with a gas guzzler for what your needs are. You can get a really nice gas HD truck for what a spartan diesel cost, and total cost of ownership will likely be lower.

1-2 times a year, eh? Well that’s definitely worth getting a $75k truck

This is what nearly everybody who has a new diesel should have instead.

Eta: looks like there's some dodge fans around here. I have a 2018 2500 and it is a steaming POS compared to both the fords and Chevy i have owned/used in recent years. It had a day in the shop for every 1000 miles on it for the first 12k miles. For 3 different issues. I have a hillarious video of the dashboard going apeshit when the whole ABS module fried itself at like 500 miles. The front axle disconnect decided to connect itself at 75 mph on the way back from Colorado at about 8k miles. The alignment was so bad that if you let go of the wheel over 20 mph you will wreck and die. Had that "corrected" and now its eating the right front tire and trying to dive off the road again

There is nothing about this truck besides the engine and the price that is an improvement vs the Ford or Chevy offerings.

I have the 6.2.

I'll get this one next I believe. Same fuel mileage with the 10 speed.

I have the big horn 6.4. Depending on where you take your camper, you could get away with a gasser on those trips. The 8 speed in the 6.4 is fantastic. The truck is fairly quick with it.

Ram had some issues with the cp4 fuel pump on the 2020 diesels, so much so I believe they went back to the cp3 fuel pumps on the 2021s. Otherwise, the diesels are magnificent. If I constantly towed or traveled in the mountains, I’d have one.

Advice, consider the long bed with the 50 gallon fuel tank. The short beds only offer 31(32?) gallon tanks. In a diesel it’s ok when towing, in a Hemi that is frustrating as your mileage drops to the point your range sucks. But if you’re only towing shorter trips, that may not concern you. Towing around the country with the hemi would be brutal as you’d be stopping to fill up all the time.

I own the hemi with the 4.10 gearing. I think tow capacity is 17,000(?). I don’t live in hills or mountains and hardly tow, so the diesel wasn’t making much sense for me. I’ll tow an occasional cow to slaughter or move tractors around town with the gooseneck, but mine is mostly for payload capacity. At 3,000lbs, the payload is a considerable upgrade over a 1500 level truck. We are always loading shite in it.

The interior is the best in its class. The safety and towing groups are great features. I’d recommend anyone at least take a look at Ram’s lineup. The 2500 class is expensive, but both engines are proven with great transmissions. They should last if taken care of as with any new vehicle these days.

Hopefully so. I'm not sure how anybody at Cummins was on board with the CP4 pump, which from what I understand was a requirement from FCA to get the noise and price down a bit.

Buddy of mine has a 2020 f250. Came from a Chevy. Absolutely regrets it. His might be a lemon but he’s had issues with it since he bought it.

I've got a '19. I feel so-so about it.

The fan clutch went out at 20k and sounded like an airboat. Had to go to 2 dealers to fix it b/c the first dealer said "diesels are supposed to be loud."

There are some minor glitches with the radio, bluetooth, and heating system that are rather annoying. They seem to be common with most of the 2500s.

There's a crank case filter that needs replaced at 67k that is expensive if you take it to the dealer, I'll be doing mine myself.

The ride and interior are awesome. 12" screen is impressive. It just aggravates me that a vehicle this expensive has the glitches I mentioned before. Would I have similar issues with a Chevy or Ford? Not sure.

Mark Dodge in Lake Charles had the best prices in the state and were easiest to work with. All Star was terrible.

Dodge has more towing and payload capacity than ford or chevy.

All I got.

The cummins is a monster in 4th gear but the torque management really kicks its arse in the other gears. Where a diesel is nice is dragging 10k pounds at 75mph through the mountains

In that brief moment, its worth every penny you paid for it.

I'm about to put a 100 gallon fuel tank in mine. The little fuel tank really sucks when pulling heavy out west.

I bought an Arctic Fox camper too, not a trailer, so I can't do that.

Big thing about the ram 2500's is the payload capacity & the lack of rear leaf springs. The ram 2500 is going to squat a lot more compared to the F-250. The ram interior is much nicer than the ford.

I went with the GMC but Ram by far has the better interior.

This is confirmed, although the failure rates on the revised cp4's Haven't seemed as common it's still a possibility. If buying new, definitely get a '21
