Looking to get a decent but not expensive gun to shoot coyotes and possible 1 day prairie dogs. Anybody got any experience with them? Also, if it doesnt have accutrigger are there easy mods or trigger swaps for it?

No experience with that exact rifle but every savage ive shot has been accurate. I think theyre the best value out there right now for a budget long range build.

The trigger oughta be fine. If it isnt, timmney probably makes one for it.

I won a camo combo. I think the scope is a Bushnell. Not a bad rifle. No accu trigger. Shoots good.

My little girl has an Axis in 243. It’s plenty accurate. She can hit the bullseye at 100yds every time. The trigger isn’t the best but it’s serviceable.
Now I read that it won’t kill a deer. Who knew?

My brother has a savage lightweight varminter 223 that his kids have taken numerous deer with. Pin point accuracy. I have a 22lr axis that's accurate.

Don’t worry I hear savage and the other manufactures will be offering deer tracking vouchers for all calibers between .223 and .416!! Offer is retroactive back to 1976

Just bought a new one last night in '06 at the Academy sale. The new stock is much stiffer than the old one and the new trigger is better too. Ad says 4.5 lbs and I can believe it even though I haven't measured it yet. If you want lighter there are articles and vids out there of folks cutting a coil off the trigger spring to lighten one. My 270 Hardwood I bought last year shoots 1/2 MOA or better with handloads. All I did was about 500 strokes with JB's bore bright before I ever shot it. Then I did the shoot once, clean, shoot 3 clean, etc break in. Whether or not those helped I have no idea but mine shoots great.

I just shot my new Axis .22-250 for the first time 3 weeks ago. The trigger is fine.
I didn't do anything to it, but put a Leupold scope on it and started shooting it.

It's the most accurate off the shelf (centerfire) rifle that I have ever seen.

Maybe I keep getting lucky with these Savage rifles, because I own several, and they are all tack drivers.

I bought a savage axis 270 Over the summer when they were on sale. Never got to shoot it before the season (it comes bore sighted) and snagged an invite for a hunt. To make matters worse I forgot the magazine at home so I had to load single shot it by hand.

Buck walks out at 90 yards. Only had one shot. Dead on.

Never shot it prior to hunting?

Come on man, that’s the best way to cripple a deer.
