So this is my 2nd year on a new deer lease. Last year I was the new guy and got a pretty crappy section. This year several fellas stepped off in Feb and we added 2 new guys. I moved sections. The guy who left my new section left behind a Dillon 4x6 fiberglass stand on a 5' platform. I was told it would be off the property by the guy who heads up the lease by 3/31.

It wasn't.

I bring my box blind out and want to put it up in same spot. I'm reassured he will move it by the end of May.

He doesn't

I ask for some guidance by head of lease and he tells me to personally contact the previous guy. I text call his cell, his office, and even contact through FB messenger. I repeat this several times even offering g to help him move the stand. 0 response.

Speak with lease head who assures me if the stand is not moved by 1st day of season (not ideal time to be setting up my area) that previous guy forfeits the property and would be trespassing. We add a new lock at gate and old lock is to be removed.

1st day of season comes and I decide I'll leave his (now the leases) stand where it is at and hunt from it and will put my other stand in another location. The erection of my other stand is delayed by recurrent heavy rains and soft ground preventing transportation to new location.

Friday at 1pm I get a text that " ___ got his stand!" He had actually taken it the Thursday evening. This morning is the opening of rifle season.

Head of lease never removed old locks and his attitude is basically "oh well its not my problem." He was surprised and offended by my frustration.

All of this to say that in general people will never fail to prove what selfish assholes they are.

Sounds like a shitty place. Deer must be worth it if you’re not looking to leave.

I would have moved it early on and set it by the shared lease area like clubhouse or by the front gate? I’d have never left an old stand up that someone will want anywhere close to the season.

Eta: and yeah you should have pushed the owner to get the property removed faster. Most wma’s require stands to be removed basically on the last day of hunting season.

you're the newbie on the lease, keep your eyes open and be warned, as long as it doesn't impact the head of lease he dgaf what happens, you should have been proactive and moved the stand and replaced it with your's...

We usually buy them for a reasonable price, you should have offered him $300.00

Oh I agree. I should have not been a nice guy and held out so long. I should have just moved his old stand to a different property and put mine up and been done long ago.

I was told the fella was too wealthy and busy to care about picking it up. Was told if it was left past 1st day of season it was mine.

Should have moved it somewhere he couldn't find it, then he would have contacted you.

In my experience, people that run leases DGAF about new guys. They would've let him come pick it up in January

I know a lot of people that are members of these huge clubs like this, with a section or stand allotment and 20 people. They all seem to have similar stories like this. Just sounds like such a headache. Hunting and fishing brings out the worst in people.

I had a similar situation on a lease I had in Alabama. When I took the lease over the guy who had it prior to me said he had a box stand he wanted to get. It was there for two years then the guy showed up one day during bow season while I’m in a tree on that field. I called him over and let him know it was not cool to show up at 7 in the morning during the season to get it. He said he would leave it till after the season, we shook hands and he left. Fast forward to the day before bow opener. Stand still there, my chainsaw got hungry. Pulled it to the hwy with the four wheeler, and made it easy for him to get..

I’m hunting in a stand a guy left at our lease as I type this.

It’s cemented in the ground, so I don’t think he plans on taking it.

Offer to move shite. Back in May I would have let them know if it’s not gone by July 1st, I’m pushing it over.

This was a homemade box (nice one) on 6” pilings. Cut it off right where the pilings met the box and pushed it over.. Put my box up on those pilings that spring lol

Send him an invoice for the "storage' on your lease. If he doesnt pay, bring him to small claims court and if he doesnt show, get a jusgement against him that collects interest till he pays.
Possibly, you could recoup the full price of the stand since he forfeited ownership by leaving it past the date.
