since the world record is 87 pounds, your estimated weight would be tough to believe. I have caught a 45 lb mahi mahi and it pulls hard like hell but it's no Yellow Fin

I've got to think that the "Pound for pound" part of the OP's question is going to rule out most large fish although I can't argue with AJ and Rooster Fish. I will have to agree with Lady Fish and maybe Chain Pickerel based on the amount of fight you get out of a very small fish.

I've always been impressed with the power of mangrove snapper.

pound for pound I'd say a blue fish. I was confused as to how that little bastard could pull drag like a bull red, and never give up.

You hook a same size bream up to a same size hard tail, and the hardtail pulls him around like a goldfish

All my votes go w something with red meat and a forked tail

Jack Crevalle for saltwater and a Shoal Bass on an ultralight for fresh.

Although, I've encountered a jellyfish that was pretty damn tough fight. I felt it for days.

Choupic don't pound for pound, and they have no stamina at all. You're simply wrong on Bonito

Well I've had choupic bend some stout treble hooks before and run like crazy. Bonitas I've never had a problem getting them to the boat. I've caught a lot from 5-15 lbs in frenzies. Still think AJs are top dog. Never had a fish make me grip a rod as if I was about to lose the rod overboard.

The ones we caught in Fl were bull-strong.

AJ. Seen one shot (speared, good shot too) punched and then stabbed repeatedly and still fought for a while.
