Potential Move to Western Colorado

A bit off topic, but I come to my OB Brethren for sound advice. Long time lurker, and I rarely post. My wife and I lived in Pass Christian right out of college, but life took us other places over the last 10 years. It became a goal of ours to move back to the Pass to raise our kids. We achieved that goal and have been back down here for a few months. I have had a much harder time finding employment on the Coast than we expected. I have worked in construction for the past 6 years mainly in stone countertops and electrical. My wife was doing very well, until being laid off due to her company's contracts being strongly tied to USDA funding. I have been looking into getting back into teaching, which is what my degree is in. She has a few offers that would come with a substantial pay cut. We are not in an urgent position due to a healthy savings account.
Here's the Colorado option. I have a good friend that has connected me with his company based out of Denver. I'm quickly progressing through the interview process to the point of potentially being flown out to Grand Junction to meet with the staff in that office. I would be in construction sales and be tasked with helping establish a sales base in the Aspen and Vale region. The position is designed to start as salary plus commission and transition into uncapped 100% commission as I establish a book of clients. The kicker is even with the potential of 100-120,000 starting out that seems to be stretching it for the entire region. They don't want me to live in Grand Junction as I would only need to report to the office a few times a month, and they want me to be near clients. 3 bed 2 bath homes an hour outside of Aspen are upwards of a million dollars. 2 bed 1 bath rentals are 2-3,000 a month, which is more than our mortgage.
I guess my question for you folks with more life experience, do ya'll think this is worth it? We have a 3 year old son and a 9 month old daughter. Our son is in a great catholic school over in the Bay and our daughter is due to start there in August, all of our family is in Mississippi or Louisiana aside from a few cousins in the Raleigh area, and a cousin in Austin. Our house is right downtown; I can see the Pass pavilion and the olive oil shop from my bedroom window. I was driving home from Wal-Mart yesterday and saw Pass Harbor in the distance and had a hard time coming to terms with leaving, again. We can do fine here. I can go teach high school, my wife can take 1 of 2 offers she has and we'll have a household income in the 110 range, which will also increase over the years. The potential earnings over even a 10 year period in Colorado could be life changing, but damn we love this place. Honestly, if I had a decent job and my wife wouldn't have gotten laid off we wouldn't even be considering this.
Apologies for the wall of text.
Give me your thoughts!

Beautiful place. Terrible politics and I couldn’t live there myself.
All I got.
All I got.

Stay brother. Thought about going out there myself. Doesn’t solve any problems. Especially with little kids.
Mountains are getting crowded.

Yeah, we have considered the culture difference. We love the coast. I'm born and raised in Oxford; she's from Madison. Her best friend is a doctor in Houma. We've gone over there for a Saturday to let the kids play. They've driven over here; we've met in New Orleans and gone to the zoo. Life has been exactly what we expected down here. We take the kids down to the beach 3-4 times a week. My son loves going to the harbor to see the boats. He's getting to that age where I can take him fishing. We cook below the house a couple times a week. I've pulled a little side work type stuff for people I know down here.

Grand Junction is a nice little town, high desert, arid lots to do outdoors. Local politics there are Republican. Living near Aspen or Vail is even commuter wise extraordinarily expense. Your kids are young enough to adapt anywhere.
I’d go on the interview simply to see what develops, and get a feel for the company. But the transition to a 100% commission salary structure with no base for me is a deal killer. Ask them their five year growth strategy and expected annual revenues during that timeframe. Meet and have dinner with your potential boss.
Check it out but living in the Pass near family is hard to beat.

It sounds like you have already made up your mind. I would certainly seek the Lord for wisdom and direction. Life isn’t always about chasing a dollar.

Thank you for your advice. I have a close friend I confide in, and he had a similar response.

Thank you, sir. A different thread about different schools best basketball players, led to Bailey Howell being discussed. I had the honor of meeting him while I was going to State, so I searched his name to see if he was still living. I clicked on an article form his church, and it was about how he made Starkville his home after his NBA career. He closed with one his favorite scriptures.
Jeremiah 10:23 "I know O'Lord, that a man's life is not his own; it is not for a man to direct his steps."
I read that as I'm contemplating all of this, and it resonated with me; then I come over to this thread and see your response. I appreciate it.

Pardner,
That area is notoriously expensive. Doctors are on welfare there. Interstate 70 is terrible. And since the legalization of marijuana there, the riff raff have taken over. Politics is insanely liberal.
My sister still lives in Littleton and wants to get out of Colorado.
I retired here on Toledo Bend and thank the lord every morning when I sip my coffee looking out over the lake.

Agree with many of the posts. From LA, lived in UT about 30 yr, one kid in Denver, one near telluride. Been to CO many, many times, moved back to LA 6 yr ago for health reasons It ain't your grandparents' CO. We've been looking in the GJ area to move back west to be near kids/gkids and homes even in/around GJ are easily a million-or they're a box on a piece of dirt. Before COVID would've probably been a good move, but sounds like u have a good situation i where u are now in things u can't put a price on. U never know what might turn up for a job if u stay, maybe patience is the by word. Seems like u might be a believer-He'll take care of your needs. Tough decision (for us too).

The time to move to Colorado was late 80s. Family friends own a cabin in Leadville since about 88. We vacationed there in early 90s. Colorado was amazing to my 9 year old eyes, and it had a quality about it that seemed to me, from the Macon Ridge area of Franklin Parish, something you might only find in far off places like Switzerland. I was hooked immediately.
Can’t say I would jump at the chance to move there as an adult. The California bunch has made it an expensive place to live.
Catch fish in the Pass and on the coast I say.
Positive Notes: Grand Junction is a cool town and you would probably enjoy it. They host the juco world series there every summer. Also, your options of visiting Utah increase hugely, so you got that going for you. Obviously a shite ton of action outside in Colorado. You just may have to sell a lot of product to afford to be there.

Are you new to sales? I wouldn’t bet on a move to Colorado to try out sales for the first time with some of the snobbiest people around (Vail and Aspen). $100K is absolutely nothing in that area, and Pass Christian is a great place to raise a family.

I’d stay as close to family (if you have a responsible family) as possible while raising kids.

This would be my first job in sales, and I have definitely considered this aspect of it. I was joking with my wife that I don't think I even have the clothes needed to start mingling with the locals.

The lure of the Rockies is strong, but be careful.....it is a different place.
