I'm late to the party, but I almost won't eat gumbo without potato salad.

Did that as a kid and my Dad got pissed. He said that would ruin gumbo. I thought the cold/hot sensation and the taste combo was awesome. I do it now too.

Something i like just as much as a potato salad served with chicken/sausage gumbo are fresh baked whole yams.
I like to put a yam in my gumbo with or without the rice. I do the same with potato salad.

I'm from Moreauville, LA and we always had sweet potato with gumbo. When I moved to Lafayette I noticed everyone had potato salad with gumbo. Either way i like it.

I can't really remember the first time I had gumbo and potato salad together, but it was after reading about people from around LA on this site having it.

Always potato salad with gumbo. Depending on my mood, I either put a scoop in the gumbo bowl or put a scoop in a separate bowl and spoon gumbo juice over it.

Scoop of potato salad on top of gumbo and rice. Get it all on a cracker.

Evangeline parish here and if there's no sweet potato there's potato salad. shite ain't rite without that and some hot cha cha
