Yeah, I know the channel would probably need a re-design.
I think it would be much less expensive to re-design the channel to support sediment movement than to just dredge and make marsh cells.
I'm all about getting the sediment into the system to let nature do the work. Although permitting agencies don't like unconfined sediment.

Diphead and Fishlip
Just a joke
But really. Between the two, in hydrological and land building terms how does a diversion flow differ from Main Pass in how land will be built. Why no land built in Main Pass delta last 14 years. What land mass built in the last 100 years from Main Pass sediment.

Your trolling is becoming obvious now....

Yup, you're trolling now. You can google the life cycles of deltas and sub-deltas, people don't need to do that for you. Deltas are constantly in a state of flux. Some areas will grow as others recede. Any land building resulting from sediment diversions will be similar in nature at different scales.
Also, since we're cherry picking examples based on anecdotal evidence, can you tell me why the wax lake outlet is a prograding delta and main pass is not? And why the trout in the upper breton sound estuary around caernarvon are different from those in the lower estuary?

You know what, I really don't have the time to play this game. I have given you several topics to google and you obviously have not done so, or you would not keep asking the same questions.
If you really want to continue this conversation look into what I have already given you. Sub delta growth curve Look it up. There are several. Cubits gap, west bay, baptiste collette, garden island bay... Educate yourself. Type in any of that into google and you will find ample information
Coleman and Gagliano 1964. Wells et al 1982 Google that. It is the definitive works on sub deltas in the Balize bird foot delta.
Come back after you have done some homework.
Thank you and have a great day.

OK, so we're dealing with a complete and total troll. Obviously one of the RNR sheeple.
Anywho, I know some of you have been reading RNR today, and surely saw my posts. I don't believe I posted anything out of line, with the only possible thing when I QUOTED Capt. Ricks stating on RNR "We have never said dredging is the only solution", then QUOTED Capt. Ricks from the Todd Masson article when he stated "Dredging is the only solution". But anywho, I'm done there. They deleted my posts, and although I'm sure I could get a post in, it would be deleted again, so I'm done with that site.
Only thing is, I still want to DISCUSS the issue with open minded people. I'm hoping we can do that here, but if not, y'all email me, because I'm creating a forum for this discussion shortly. If you're interested, I'll put up an email addy in a couple days once I get it set up.
If this is against TD or OB rules, someone let me know. Not trying to spam or anything, just wanna set up a place to discuss this with intelligent people, and get the word out about this issue.

Fishhead. I like that idea. I would like to get in touch with you. Would you post up your email real quick right now
Thanks

Got it. Thanks.
Enjoyed your posts on both forums the past few days.
I think this thread has run its course.
I strongly suggest that anyone who has got this far go back and find Fishhead's link to the State Master Plan and give it a read.

I had to quit reading that crap on RnR. Can't say I'm surprised though, we've got some very short sighted individuals in this state.

took my email down. I'll check back in a couple days when I get it set up to see if anyone wants to discuss it.

Good deal. I've been going through my papers from college. I know I have some papers Dr Kesel published on the river sediment loads and Dr Stone did on sediment transport and the use of Trinity, Tiger and Ship Shoals sediment for restoration.

Ok guys. obfuscate, call me troll, ad hominem, give me homework, say you've answered in previous post, etc. What is obvious, you erudite fellows cannot/have not given a straight forward answer. To me, a person trying to determine where I fall on this issue, you're argument gets emptier as we go.

I have other questions too, like how high above mean sea level will this diversion created land mass be?
But I was hoping to get my questions answered as we go.

Once again, studying the wax lake delta can answer your questions. Considering flood stage on the lower river is a matter of several feet, the land won't be very high. Pretty straightforward.
If you read about sub delta life cycles, the morphological history of SELA, our answers would seem more and more complete to you. Yor comments show you still have not even googled anything posters have provided.
I'm out ricks/lane. Objecting to this science is no different than objecting to the standard model of the atom or objecting to the fact that the earth is a sphere. It has been globally studied. It is globally agreed upon by the scientific and engineering community. Louisiana brought it the best local, national, and international scientists and engineers when constructing its master plan an consulted with them on a daily basis.

This sounds like a great idea fishhead.

Looking at Wax Lake Delta, I'd posit that the sediment deposited was not from the Mississippi River but more of Atchafalaya swamp soil redeposited. The Mississippi won't have that sediment load.
How does Main Pass differ from a proposed diversion? What land mass has Main Pass created?
