Have seen 2 in the Mandeville area in the last week. Never seen them here before, is it uncommon for them to be in this part of the state?

Information on the LDWF web page says they are west of the Mississippi river and mainly in western Louisiana.

Shoutout to the Fort Worth zoo, one of 4 pine snake breeding centers in the country. Here is a video of their 2021 release of 23 pine snakes in kisatchie LINK

They keep a big one on display too.

That's awesome. Audobon Zoo has some pretty ones on display as well. They have a handful for viewing and I'm sure more behind closed doors for breeding

Gotta question the photo. Is that another snake above it? If so, I'd have to call that one a Dekays which would lead me to believe that the snake in question is very small/young. That would explain the light colored markings for a diamondback water snake.
