You can open it all up to hunting and fishing, just ban mud motors and airboats...

Troy Landry recently gated one of the most popular canals in the Verret area, and word on the street is he's about to gate another one!!!!

Just because it's popular doesn't mean it isn't trespassing

So here's an example. Lease I duck hunted for years in Houma. The Red is a camp, white is a gate or dam, blue is duck blinds and black is deer stands.

If this passed, all these ponds and tranoses would be opened up to anyone that wanted to go back there. So I could be duck or deer hunting and someone could come riding their boat and sit in my pond while I'm trying to hunt.

I understand the frustrations but land owners have rights. Just because water is there it isn't free.

Deer and ducks are "owned" by the state. Just because a deer wanders onto land that I own, it doesn't mean that you have the right to hunt and kill it; that goes for bass too.

Your example is not the same as the canal that Troy Landry gated off on Lake Verret. IMO

It's not the same but it's what the petition is asking. Boats can float back there

I am all for public lands and public access but I am also understanding of private land owner rights. It's a slippery slope

The land I currently duck hunt in Montegut is all broken marsh. We have boats fishing it all the time but it would be a pain to try to keep anyone out of there. It's the same redfish marsh everyone fishes all summer. Most guys are respectful of you hunting but you always have the assholes that don't care and will fish right by you. Those are they guys that are and have ruined it for everyone else

I don't have a problem with you blocking off those tranoses. Hell as a fisherman all I would want to fish is the runout anyway. I hunt on a lease in kind of the same area as well (closer to Morgan City). To me I just see a big difference between a canal and a tranose.

My thing is, especially in that marsh area the fish get in those canals off the main waterway because the water gets clear. If all of these canals get gated off fishing will just down right suck. Yes, I have had a guy run me out of a canal before just this past summer saying it was private. When I say a canal I'm talking about one like what your camp is on (not the tranoses). I wasn't going in the marsh just wanted to fish the runout. The guy seems to have had a few beers in him so I just went on my way and didn't argue with the tool.

I completely understand the frustration. I hate it that a few guys cant respect some guys hunting, and are ruining it for the rest of us.

When you hit a deer in your car (deer is state property) does the state pay for it or do you?

Your argument holds no water

So how are all these people that have been paying taxes on this marsh all these years going to be compensated for the state "taking" their land/water?

Unfortunately this is the sad truth. I like to hunt and fish equally. A slippery slope is right
