I need some direction from those of you that have experience cooking on a pellet grill. I really like the idea of having a set it and forget it smoker, but I'm concerned with it's regular grilling abilities. How do they work for steaks and hamburgers.

I bought the Camp Chef Woodwind with the side sear box for that exact reason.
The grill itself gets to about 450-475, which should be well good enough to grill. The sear box gets to 800°+, which is great for steaks or char marks on the food you smoked.

Pit Boss does a fine job has ability to expose an area in center to flame. But its a great machine. Would do it again

I’m looking at a pit boss 820 or pb Austin 1000 for a wedding gift. Will they grill as easy as they smoke?
Was also looking at a cagun fryer grill, but the pitboss looks more versatile and bigger for the money. But I’ve never fooled with a pellet grill/smoker.

Stay away from the Cajun fryer grill. I have one and it sucks. Basically an oven. I'm intrigued with the woodwind with sear box. Looks like there best if both worlds.

All this laziness. Get a Weber kettle. It can do it all.

I have a GMG. It will cook anything.

Slight hijack, and maybe something OP can look at...
I'm looking at a Green Mountain Daniel Boone... I know a few guys here have GMGs
Any info??

Fwiw, you can add a sear box to any camp chef.

I have a Memphis Pro and it does great for grilling and smoking, but we use it way more for smoking (green egg is our go-to for grilling). It does have a grill plate/insert that allows for direct grilling which allows for direct flame grilling. They are worth taking a look at it if you are in the market for a pellet grill.

I bought a Yoder and have no issues in any temp range, it is the perfect reverse sear machine and you can grill/sear over the open fire if you so wish.

I have the Daniel Boone with WiFi and stainless lid. Also have the blanket for it which reduces pellet usage. It's basically bulletproof and has made some amazing food.

Yoder YS640 gives you the best of both worlds.

I’m not a professional chef, and I’m comfortable with the size of my man parts... so I’m not embarrassed when I serve a perfectly cooked brisket, pork butt, or ribeye and tell my guests it was cooked on a pellet grill.

I second this. I have a Woodwind and love it. Used it today!

I have a CampChef Lux... great for smoking large cuts of meat. Good for burgers, chicken, but doesn’t get hot enough for steaks imho. I like to smoke a steak on it for 2-3 hrs on 220F, then throw it on my gas grill for 1minute on each side. Good eats!!!
