panga boats are a complete myth. they will beat the tits off your girlfriend. I love them, but if you think they are anything more than a super cheap narrow flat bottom you are kidding yourself. Any seaworthy American boat will do everything they will do. The other boats will burn more gas, but they will be way more stable ride better, have storage, etc. but they have way more engineering in hull. People in third world countries use pangas cause they are cheap and readily available. Yamaha made them that way so they could sell engines for them

eta I'd buy a cheap 22 today and throw a tiller handle on it, but I'd tell you the truth about it. Beater utility boat, same as a reno

My brothers 18’ panga is a more seaworthy boat than the 18’ bay boat I once owned.

Far more seaworthy in an offshore application than my current Ankona Cayenne. But that’s comparing a microskiff to a more traditional skiff.

I have a 20' ft Reno with 90 Etech my dad outfitted. Have a lot of fun with it but I stay in..I'd like to know more about how it be on the outside but it's a sweet marsh boat.

18' Panga Marine or 18' Andros is a very capable boat. I would rather one of those than a Reno, but mine own needs out of a boat are probably different than OP.

There was a guy who lived on the Northshore somewhere that fly fished for reds in Biloxi Marsh and caught swords deep dropping out of the same Panga Marine (20-22ft)

From your comments above, I have a feeling you’ve never actually stepped foot on a panga or Ankona.

Nonetheless ... to the OP, good luck on your search. Keep us posted.

i’ve done a bit of diving in the western hemisphere and A LOT of the island dive outfits use pangas. they run them up on the beach with no problem, scoot over shallow reefs with no problem, hold the dive masters weed stash with no problem (don’t ask!), and can hold a bunch of dive gear, and bump thru waves safely (but BUMP). however, the exaggerated bow rise forces you to come/go oit the back half.

I've seen some of these guys videos. He caught one so big he couldn't pull it in the boat.

I just purchased a 18 foot Panga from Panga Marine in Sarasota Florida. The reason I went with this boat was because it is what Chas uses in his Matrix youtube videos. (if you want to see what it can do just check a few of the videos out) I just returned from Delacroix and it was flawless in handling the larger chop as well as running shallow. I have a 90 HP and it will run up to 36 mph. Panga Marine has plenty of options so you can customize it to how you want. I went with a side console because I wanted the extra room. (this does cause the only negative I can say because the bow does sit high. It inhibits your view when going on plane. If you went with the center console this would not be an issue). I have trim tabs, 20 gallon tank (up to 120 miles of coverage), depth finder, aluminum trailer and Minn Kota GPS trolling motor (need the longer shaft for the bow). All of that for around $35,000. They custom build each boat and I can testify that this thing is solid.

I think I want to go bigger to be able to get out, but I'd like to check out your panga if we're close, maybe talk about your buying experience at panga marine. I've been checking out their stuff online.

I forgot to mention the jack plate and live well. They also make longer boats which would probably be more suitable for offshore applications. I would not have any issue taking it out front (beach) if the conditions were right. However I have never found a shortage of trout/reds in the bays so that is what I am primarily targeting. Yes it will float in 7" of water and is quite easily poled. The V in the front is more than capable of ensuring a dry ride when confronted with 2-3 ft swells. That is about as rough as I have been in so far. The boat is also self bailing but does come equipped with a bilge pump in the bottom of the boat. The trolling motor runs on 24 V and came prewired with a charger attached. I had a swing tongue installed so if fits nicely in my garage. (no additional cost required for storage) Total weight with trailer is around 2500 # so it is fairly easy to tow with my 1/2 ton. This boat is not some mass produced product sold at Bass Pro. I was very happy with the Tom and crew at Pangamarine. Check out there website and you can see their options...…. Tight lines

Damn nice boat. I’d like a 22’ custom one day when I have more time to dedicate to fishing.
